The lower court has been ordered to hand a new sentence, according to article.

Not being any type of legal expert, this outcome seems sensible to me. He knowingly and intentionally shot someone through a door. His girlfriend or not is a moot point.

Women certainly do need to cover up in Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque. Including a head scarf. Those tourists who came unprepared were directed to a room where they were issued with full body coverings.

'we' had to buy a suitable garment from the shop next to the new Coffee Club store

In Georgian Orthodox Churches (in Rep. Georgia, natch) my 25yo female guide, usually in long casual pants, had to don a calf-length 'skirt' (supplied by the church) to wrap around over her pants. It covered less than her pants, but a 'skirt' was the required form of female attire.

In Burma, at one temple I (male) was required to have an ankle length longyi (sarong) wrapped around my lower half when my knee length short trousers, socks and shoes were judged too racy.

But only in the Vatican have I see dress modesty required in a Catholic Church.

In Italy a couple of years ago we had to cover legs and shoulders for every church we entered...

Not so much; thats why self defense exists (when used appropriately, I make no judgement in this particular case).

Got told off by a cousin for wearing shorts in a church. OK it was a funeral but it was a 40c day and I had to leave the service because of nearly passing out in the stuffy church.

What happens next is now the question.
According an SA journalist interviewed on radio this morning he has been found guilty of murder by this appeal - there is no retrial on that basis.

To follow is sentencing.

I am not a law expert and don't have interest in this case but if someone breaks into my house I should be able to shoot them first and ask questions later.

Step 1: Warning shot into the ceiling
Step 2: Shoot burglar
Step 3: Carry out step 1, if you forget to do it

Reminds me of a joke from the 1980s.

Best heard with a strong Californian accent:

BANG
Stop or I'll Shoot.
Dang it I always get it the wrong way round!

We went back to Euro in Auckland (known to many AFFers) for a light snack for lunch today. It's had a decor refresh and a new chef. They've managed to keep the good parts of the layout - nice views and breeze off the harbour. I can't speak for the whole menu, but we had some great oysters and fish and some nice wine - the change is a winner. We also went to Baduzzi at the Viaduct - great Italian - highly recommended.

I guess I need to go back to compare the new to old! Thanks for sharing.

This should more correctly be in the 'Grammar Discussion' thread but as earlier comments have been about spelling mistakes, this is taking the good old school composition to a whole new level. A very low level. The usual food wankery in this week's Epicure' section in the Age.
'This cafe morphs from breakfast spot to bistro in the time it takes to get a terracotta tan'.

Gnocchi is 'rich pan-fried nubbins of squish dressed with a rubble of fresh broad beans and dressed with a white pepper left hook and melty lobes of mild squacquerone cheese'.The mackerel is 'far less funky than you've ever seen it' perhaps due to its being 'rumbled with waxy potatoes'.

Fancy dessert? Well, you can 'mainline your custard in the form of a strawberry fool with sharp rhubarb poached in bubbles. It's face-in-a-rosebush- floral, stopping short of potpourri'.

Really?? Perhaps the decor will soothe diners, as the look is 'Country Living meets Temple and Webster, Gwyneth Paltrow meets Nigella Lawson. It's copies of Monocle and turquoise walls meets flowing ferns and Mumford & Sons'.

What a load of bollocks this article is.
