Injuries will occur in any sport because of accidental or deliberate contact and sometimes bad luck.
What bugs us us the writhing around when playbacks show no contact or barely contact. Within seconds of getting the penalty they are back on their feet.

This is similar to those passengers who need a wheelchair to board an aircraft but are miraculously cured by the time it lands and are able to walk off.

A friend of ours on Oasis of the Seas - a mega ship - was asked to push a gopher from one end of the ship to the other where the restaurant was. The battery had gone flat. Finally he got the gopher and man to the door of the restaurant whereupon he arose from his chariot and walked to his table, asking our friend to park it nearby.

There's a reason why AA staff called their DEL flight "miracle" flights ;)

I agree that chess is a sport anat01.It was the only one apart from billiards that I excelled in.
In my last year of high school I was board 1.The competition included the GPS schools and the public schools-Sydney,North Sydney,Normanhurst and Hunter's Hill-my school. It came to the last round and I was undefeated. Our opponent was North Sydney and their board 1 was already doing the chess problems in one of the Sydney papers, was to become a Grand Master and was also undefeated.I ended up being the only undefeated player of the year.
Also came equal third in the NSW chess comp that year.Barely played since but have taken to playing my grandkids recently as especially my grandson is showing some promise as a 5 year old.
Billiards-captained my hospital team as a RMO.

Classic. Very hot in Adelaide this weekend. 41 tomorrow. There are 2 Soccer fixtures - men and women. Original fixture was for women's match first, lets say 1pm as a warmer. To be followed by the 'main match' of the men. Lets say 4pm. It was decided it was too hot for the men to play at 4pm so the match was shifted to 7.30pm. So in line with that - the women's match shifted to 4pm.

Clearly male soccer players are softer than women.

No Male players are worth more and have a better union.

Indeed. No wonder soccer never really captures Australians. So much writhing in pain for a nothing touch.

Football keeps growing and growing much to the worry of the AFL/NRL.

I played all codes of football at different times through my school years, and by far the worst injuries were in Soccer. My wife made me give it away at age 32 when a good friend decided it was safer to play in goal at our ages. In the first game of the season had his leg broken in three places when he wrapped it around a goalpost. I played secretly at work in the Public Service competition in the Sydney domain for a further 3 years until an unfortunate injury forced an admission of guilt.

While I am the first to agree that soccer may never supplant AFL, the only other truly national football code. Of course that reminds me of the old maxim - about how to become the best in the world at a sport - invent your own!!

But both forms of Rugby are in the sights of the world game. Whether you like the writhing around or not, more people play soccer football in this country than any other football by a wide margin. And it doesn't matter how much some may enjoy the Rugby World Cup, for most other countries in the world there is only one World Cup - bigger than the Olympics they say.

Have witnessed some horrible injuries in golf.
Injuries sustained at the 19th don't count!
Not quite in the "horrible" category but I retired hurt from an age-group championship when playing in my teens.
The top rail of a fence (a very heavy metal pipe) rolled off and landed my chest as I swung under it. Winded and bruised, I elected to play on as I was defending champ from the previous 2 years, only to be struck on the head by a wayward ball about 5 minutes later. Off to hospital with a corker of a bruise and a headache to match. :(
I played Rugby League through high school and for a few years after with less significant injuries. Then I took up motorcycle racing...

Well it does help when you have racist journalists attack the sport because their little codes feel threatened.

Racist journalists? What races play soccer in Australia vs play NRL/AFL?

Little codes

But sorry, I was too cryptic. Referring to the current boycotts by fans. Haven't followed the issue in detail but David Gallop seems to be handling this code as well as he did NRL.

LOL.

Sorry to hear about your incidents.

I have witnessed 2 people cop a golf ball to the head that could have resulted in death. We were sitting on the 6th tee waiting for the group in front when we heard "Four" yelled and next thing this person was down on the ground with blood pouring out of his forehead. The ball came from the 8th tee. The guy was a mess. He wanted to continue. Didn't know where he was. Called his wife and the ambulance to take him to hospital. Another person had a similar injury and never saw him again.

When I think of these people I think of that young girl (15 year old?) that died a few years back in Sydney after being hit in the head by a golf ball. Warringah golf club?

Someone I know is a member at my local golf course lost his eye as a teenager from a stray golf ball.

No I realise you were giving a wink and nod to the boycott.
