No masterplan Penegal but I do overnight in Singapore at the Crowne Plaza when I am going to London or Los Angeles.

NYE is totally over-ratted IMHO. So many bad experiences in the past. So much stress. So many people. So many lines. Massive FOMO. Too much alcohol. The list goes on and on.

I prefer to have 364 good nights in the year, and screw NYE.

That said - What should I do this NYE? :p:p:p

New Years Eve not that special. Seen one, seen them all.

Work in the morning, fly back home in afternoon/evening and maybe pokies at night.

Will definitely try to have game of golf New Years Day as that makes for a great start to year.

Agreed, NYE totally overrated, we will be driving to see my mum who lives far away from any celebrations (and 3km from the nearest neighbour - her sister). We will no doubt have a lovely home cooked dinner and be in bed by 5 minutes past midnight, if we make it that late.

I just booked the first part of our trip next September, reward flights KMG-HKG-SIN for myself and my 15 year old (currently 14) We spend about a week in Yunnan before meeting the other two men in my life (Mr Feezable and our 12 year old) in SIN. 1nt in SIN then we'll fly together to DPS for 8 or 9nts at my favourite place in Ubud Alam Indah | Ubud, Bali

I can't wait for this trip and feel a bit guilty that I've already mentally moved on from our upcoming trip to NZ South Island in January.

You don't like screwing? Or are in a drought and only getting a NYE sympathy screw? ;)

And I'm working.

Me too, and on Jan 01.

I had 2 small bottles of Voss on Emirates flight from BKK-HKG. Tastes like water. Do people seriously pay that much extra for water?

NYE is usually a bust for us too. Last one I remember being awake for was 1999-2000. Remember that Johnnie H wanted us to celebrate the new millenium a year later? Wonder who showed up for his party.

In bed at the usual 9:30 for me. On NYE I generally get woken at midnight by one of the (small) dogs sitting on my head and shaking like a leaf due to fireworks at a nearby Italian club.

Tend to agree as for the big central displays. Trying to get home again becomes a major endurance event.

Have been drawn into the Munich experience out in the 'burbs.

Stayed at a NH in a residential area and were treated to nearly 2 hours of fireworks (confession - frustrated pyromaniac with fireworks -)

Typical German efficiency - neighbours did not let them all off at the same time but it appeared that every street organised itself so it became one house's display followed by the next and so on. With this being repeated in all the surrounding streets - hence the near 2 hours worth starting from 11ish through to just before 1am.

Fireworks were mostly made in Germany and very impressive - ranging from multi-kg boxes where you light the one fuse and in various aligned sequences the whole contents goes off with rockets interspersed with ground level or low level other fireworks.

Surprised by the views of our three teens - lasted nearly the entire time the first year and nearly as long 2 years later.

Fireworks in a valley in Austria was/is totally different with houses putting on dancing and music leading up to midnight with (seemingly mandatory) Vienna Waltz played (and danced) at midnight with everyone getting into the swing of it from 90+ through to toddlers.

Embarrassing lack of dancing skill from Australian contingent...

Sydney city has 2 displays...one at 9:00 and another as the clock ticks over to the new year. We're about 10 min walk from vantage point giving unobstructed view of fireworks over the harbour bridge. I see 9:00 display and get woken up on midnight when fireworks kick off at the beach. I sleep early to get up early for morning walk from Bondi to Coogee and back.

We typically get awoken somewhere between 200-330 by the illegal fireworks being lit.....

My brother leaves near Brighton-le-sands, and we like to go to his for dinner and then wander down to the bay beachfront to watch the local display when we can, which they also hold on Australia Day. More than enough for the oldies and the grandchildren, and then we get home well away from the bangs and sometimes even stay awake until midnight passes on purpose (but not always). Our other alternative is some friends who have a New Year's party most years down in the Shire. No fireworks, but great company, which gets me round to where I was going. For me New Year's like so many celebrations is as much about who you are with as where you are and what you see.

Villa Cora, Firenze for us.

Oh very fancy.

If you get to Sante Croce please think of me - I used to live just off the square for a little while, before I moved across town.

Mind you that was a very very long time ago...
