In regards to Melbourne weather, I'd imagine this is hell for people with a fever, and probably the prime weather for people to get a fever!
Also, I'm not sure what the balance of air conditioners (dual cycle) are in Melbourne, as I'm sure many older homes have none or only heating, but when really hot weather hits it also sees many die from heat stroke, particularly the elderly. Usually such stories make the news, but from at least the Queensland news, nothing heard about down south yet.
You find many of the older poorly constructed homes are more reliant on A/C or evaporative cooling. Neighbours next door had the cooling on yesterday and heating today. Home built in 30's but advertised by the real estate agents as only 20 years old! Reality it had some renos but totally BS by the real estate agents.
Dry heat mainly in Melbourne, so you usually need at least 3 days of heat for health problems to arise.
