Have you heard of darts? Now there is highly popular televised sport.

Have you tried to play mixed netball. or mixed touch football. Both games that require skill and players are equal.

Have you heard of coughy Riggs and Billie Jean King?

Sure that can happen and sports like flicking marbles could become extremely popular.

I can just see the future now. Let's create some new sports where men and women can compete equally without a gender gap. Tiddlywinks sounds exciting. Then no one feels left out.

LOL medhead!

Darts? Yep. And who are the best darts players?

Netball is a boring game. Ratings sort of prove that point.

Bobby Riggs was a former number 1 but was 55 years old. He beat Margaret Court but lost to Billie Jean King. Some say he threw the match. Connors and Navratilova 20 years later under hybrid rules heavily favouring women won quite easily.

Golf? I know lots of people don't like game but there is as much finesse involved as there is power. Women struggle to make the cut.

Darts is still an international televised sport that attracts massive sponsorship, regardless of whether I personally watch it or not. But I do like it when the announcer exclaims "One hundred and Seventy!"

coughy Riggs' estate and Son deny he threw the match. He was also beaten in 5 sets.

Netball is a fast moving game like basketball.

Perhaps you should match up against Karrie Webb? Then you'll show me once and for all that women's sport is lesser than men's

No need to create new sports. Men and women already compete equally in equestrian events and horse racing amongst others. In fact the Melbourne Cup in November was won by a female jockey.
I'd hardly call that tiddlywinks

LOL. Where did I say that I was better than anyone?

Fact. Not opinion. In any sport played by both sexes the men are considerably better. In fact most women would not make the team. But that's not a bad thing. Equality doesn't have to stretch everywhere.

Karrie Webb would be better off playing against Peter Senior.

That was last year.

Women are superior in ultra long distance swimming. Might be because of their higher fat percentages.

lol. Right here. I've bolded it for you. I'll accept your word that it's Fact, even if it is really opinion.

The men means all men, not some men. Therefore, your match against Karrie Webb will demonstrate this fact.

Big sport audiences (live or TV) can be driven by:

The spectacle (this is where (male and female) tennis would beat swimming for example)
Being world-class (cricket, football codes except soccer in Aus, Olympics)
'Tribal' (League, AFL, some soccer teams)
Previous participation

State and international netball does seem to draw decent live crowds as it is world-class, has a lot of participants and quite tribal.
Women's cricket is clearly not world-class when compared to the Men's product

Agree

Not that sure, only going on what the papers said which was the Australian win was more a result of some poor playing by England than brilliant play by Australia.
Whatever caused the collapse (they went from 1 for 89 chasing 132 to 7 for 117) it was still a win for Australia and there have been many men's matches won similarly. As I said a win is a win and good luck to them.

I agree. You take any win you can. Perhaps some of the pressure applied by the Stars contributed to the collapse. When two teams play, there is always the possibility that either will win.

You are of course right. No need to create new sports or change the rules of existing sports. If women are good enough they'll be competitive.

And I certainly hope no one foolish enough starts suggesting a quota system.

Well a woman has already made the cut in a men's professional tournament in golf-
Golf: Wie makes cut in Asian tour men's event | Sport | The Guardian

And a 14 year old boy made the cut at the 2013 Masters.
Remember Tianlang Guan from the 2013 Masters? He's going to play junior golf again - Golf Digest

So if he could it certainly is possible a woman might.

As to watching sport it really is the quality of both teams when watching soccer, cricket etc.I have enjoyed watching the Australian women's teams in both soccer and cricket.Watching the Matildas in their recent Olympic qualifying matches to me was as enjoyable as watching the men.

But then I am in agreement with the Joker that best out of 3 sets just isn't the same as best of 5.

So whenever I attempt to open this thread using the iPhone app, it takes me to post #38523, or "Make that brûlées, plural".

Similarly, the humour thread takes me to Post #3671 or "SAFE AT HOME AT LAST", which was not even funny the first time.

My mother was an outstanding golfer. During WWII she taught in Forbes. The men there made her play off the members tee because she was thrashing them off the ladies tee. When she played off the members tee the results were the same.

Maybe a harder day in the office after the Men's result?

Last day before holidays - so fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it...) I've got b2b meetings all day so low chance of interaction ;)

Totally understandable. There are exceptions and your mother was one of them.

There are 3-4 kids who were members at my golf club who have turned pro. They can shoot 10 under at the Lakes but can't get a local tour card. They can bomb the ball down there 280m-300m leaving short wedges to most par 4's. They make the game look easy.

Not being nasty but no female golfer their age would get anywhere near them from the mens tees or the ladies tees.

And lets leave it that as this argument is very dry.
