Take my car into Toyota service just to get satnav map updated. Apparently need a special code tied to car's computer to activate satnav map. Cost of map plus $88 to get special code. Service required minimum 1.5 hours!!!.

Ok

Car returned to me with a huge dent in tailgate. Sorry our fault says service manager

Ok accidents happens

We would like to pay for your excess or we can fix the car as we are are a Toyota dealership.

Ah no. Ill get it fixed and get my insurer to send you the bill.

Ring my insurer GiO. They ask who is the driver who caused the accident. Sorry Toyota won't divulge name due to privacy issues.
Oh in that case we can't process this as no fault claim.
But it was not my fault.

To and fro. Had to speak with GiO recoveries (debt chasers)

In the end Toyota never did divulge name of technician who caused accident but it's a bit irrelevant as the accident was caused by Toyota on their premises and by one of their employees.
GiO waived excess and will chase Toyota dealerships insurance.

At least now I have proper repair done by my choice of repairer with lifetime GiO warranty

All because the Sensis Toyota satnav maps cannot be loaded without Toyota involvement - reason is so a copied cannot be used. A interrogation of the cars computer is necessary to get a special serial number of the satnav unit which is then linked to a serial number that comes with the Dvd ( the dvd serial number a one time use only.)
I found out later that Apparently you can do it yourself but if you muck it up the dvd serial number being a one time use cannot be re-entered to get activation code and therefore voids the disc. So better to do it through dealership- if they muck it up its their cost

Apparently both Dvd serial number and car serial number gets into uploaded to an online activation secure website which sends an activation code. This activation code is then entered into satnav screen to authorise the reading of the did

They did not charge me for the satnav map load (had to pay for disc which is fine) - the service advisor said that would be bad karma

The hardest part of sending your laptop for repair is reorganising your life for a month around not having it.

I know I know not everyone has a Mac. But apple repairs all their products on site in the store you drop it into - apparently.

I had a logic board and screen replaced in a less than 24 hr turnaround. It was a small logic board that operates the peripheral ports and they discovered I had more dead pixels than usual.

MacBook was 0.5 years out of warranty but Apple said Apple products in NSW have an effective 2 year warranty as part of Consumer law- goods have to be fit for purpose and implied warranty reasons. So at apples instigation fixed for free

My office has been without internet since yesterday 2pm, our office is being run on half a dozen phones as hotspots, red bull and the tears of our IT people that cannot figure it out.

I had a giant lot of basil stolen from a pot on my back deck, despite the presence of two dogs. They uprooted the lot :(

I've had that with parsley - possums love it! And coriander. Not sure what they think of basil, though?

Yep, all you want is a set of furry footprints on the floor and a set of sticky paws!
Looks wonderful.
How long till you can walk on it?

Tomorrow I can walk on it. Will start dusting and patching paint. No furniture for 5 days and no 2 son and his mate are doing the furniture stuff Wednesday night. Will look so different.
I even polished the family silver and told no 2 son to sell it when he inherits it as polishing silver is a time when they had servants. My grandparents in law actually had a live in housekeeper which is where the silverware largely came from. I have thrown away so much carp this last month. Doing the opposite of nesting.

Quickstatus - seems like a way to ensure people pay for Toyota servicing. If you had decided to report damage to Police - over $300? - then name of the driver is required. This privacy stuff is utter nonsense. PC gone made. And this is why Trump got in.

Police would only get involved if it was on a gazetted road and then only if vehicle is undriveable or if someone got injured.

If on a gazetted road I think it's an offence to not exchange details???

$7000 damage according to GIO

Toyota Landcruiser - bumper bar ok just the tailgate (those electric button opening and closing ones) above it was caved in - must have reversed into something on a pillar or wall. It has a reversing camera.

In SA its $3000 or where you don't get drivers details. A car park is treated the same as a public road.

You need a dash cam!

Unfortunately this was on private property

Yes that's a good idea - a front and rear one.
But without drivers details can still be potentially stuck

I find it crazy that a show which only lasted 12 episodes remains such a massive force in popular culture after 40 years. Not that I don't enjoy it myself.
Because it was so very clever.
I love Basil the Rat
Manuel: I say to man in shop, "Is rat." He say, "No, no, no. Is a special kind of hamster. Is filigree Siberian hamster." Only one in shop. He make special price, only five pound.
Basil: Have you ever heard of the bubonic plague, Manuel? It was very popular here at one time. A lot of pedigreed hamsters came over on ships from Siberia.
Sybil: Basil, he's Manuel's pet. We have a duty to it. Perhaps we could find a home for him.
Basil: All right, I'll put an ad in the papers. "Wanted: Kind home for enormous, savage rodent. Answers to the name of 'Sybil.'"
Manuel: Don't hit me! Always you hit me!

I have kept boarding passes and some hospital records for my 2 month old daughter and wife thinks I'm nuts.

My daughter has already had 4 flights and has stayed in 13 hotels and will stay in another 3 hotels before the end of this month.

My daughter likes to hear about all the trips she made before she was even 1 year old. I think it even indirectly it encourages her to be 'courageous'. Your memorabilia is great, as there is so much you forget as they grow up.

My records are missing a large number of flights I took as a child. If he's interested he'll thank you later, if not, nothing lost.

What - you don't have a low spec spare? With files backed up in "the cloud"?

Files are backed up, not necessarily in the cloud.

"Low spec spare"? What am I, made of money?

There are computers in the house but they are communal. Both don't have Office; will probably have to install LibreOffice on one of them so I can still apply for jobs whilst mine gets repaired.

Actually, maybe the only thing worse than planning for the absence is when you report an intermittent fault and all of the sudden on the day you send it away you can't for the life of you replicate the fault!

Win! Just checked our bookings for Grand Hyatt Sin and Peninsula BKK for our NY break - booked in June. Have now amended the bookings and saved ~ $1,500 ++ with increased benefits :D

Will go some way to pay for the NY's Eve booking I just made for a SIN meal
