Take my car into Toyota service just to get satnav map updated. Apparently need a special code tied to car's computer to activate satnav map. Cost of map plus $88 to get special code. Service required minimum 1.5 hours!!!.
Ok
Car returned to me with a huge dent in tailgate. Sorry our fault says service manager
Ok accidents happens
We would like to pay for your excess or we can fix the car as we are are a Toyota dealership.
Ah no. Ill get it fixed and get my insurer to send you the bill.
Ring my insurer GiO. They ask who is the driver who caused the accident. Sorry Toyota won't divulge name due to privacy issues.
Oh in that case we can't process this as no fault claim.
But it was not my fault.
To and fro. Had to speak with GiO recoveries (debt chasers)
In the end Toyota never did divulge name of technician who caused accident but it's a bit irrelevant as the accident was caused by Toyota on their premises and by one of their employees.
GiO waived excess and will chase Toyota dealerships insurance.
At least now I have proper repair done by my choice of repairer with lifetime GiO warranty
All because the Sensis Toyota satnav maps cannot be loaded without Toyota involvement - reason is so a copied cannot be used. A interrogation of the cars computer is necessary to get a special serial number of the satnav unit which is then linked to a serial number that comes with the Dvd ( the dvd serial number a one time use only.)
I found out later that Apparently you can do it yourself but if you muck it up the dvd serial number being a one time use cannot be re-entered to get activation code and therefore voids the disc. So better to do it through dealership- if they muck it up its their cost
Apparently both Dvd serial number and car serial number gets into uploaded to an online activation secure website which sends an activation code. This activation code is then entered into satnav screen to authorise the reading of the did
They did not charge me for the satnav map load (had to pay for disc which is fine) - the service advisor said that would be bad karma
