I guess because its Gladstone? Very poor service, or lack of service.

We just had ANOTHER fire evac because someone burnt toast somewhere, or tripped a desk heater or something in the building.

Checking my records, we had to evac March 29th, April 3rd, April 4th, May 9th, May 19th, June 6th, June 20th. Ridiculous! Told the building manager that I have 2 very pregnant ladies (who now have evac buddies) walking downwards in spirals for 8 flights who are getting dizzy because of these false alarms.

Wow, that's pretty poor and from a chain like Rydges as well. I can understand that sometimes rooms are not serviced on Sundays in some very small places but that they did not have any service of any kind for both Saturday and Sunday is almost unbelievable. I know where not to stay in Gladstone if I need to be there over a weekend.

Yes, if I had known about that I would have booked our stay at the Mercure !! There is nothing on the Rydges website about it either. And nothing on our booking confirmation. But if we were to stay in Gladstone again I would stay somewhere else. Ron was glad to get out of Rocky for the weekend and we did enjoy Gladstone - it had been 20 years since we were last there !!

Definitely go for the Mercure. Booked partner in there a couple of weeks back (Saturday night), as Accor Plus Platinum, and she said it was brilliant. Platinum benefits honoured, plenty of food choice, large, clean and infinitely better than the Mercure in Melbourne she was in on the Thursday night before.

You have to hand it to the ATO. Mr LtL received a letter today informing him that superannuation changes on 1 July and that his combined amounts 'may' mean that he will have to pay tax (as if they didn't know!). A bit late if we hadn't already moved the money around. But then again I did have to write to them once and received a phone call about the letter only 6 months later!

Just saw blakinho in the crowd at Sochi for the Australia versus Germany soccer game on the tv coverage. Seems our eldest son is enjoying his soccer watching trip in Russia.

Point has been made on social media that the young man has appeared on tv more times in Socceroos crowd shots, than in his actual job.

On of my husbands friends went to a show and he was sitting behind a guy with a man bun - and it basically blocked the entire view as it was on top of his head.

The friend tapped the guy in front, showed him the photo and the man bun was deployed into a nice man-bob.

So over the weekend we stayed at the Rydges Gladstone hotel. Arrived Friday late afternoon and checked out Sunday morning. In the room there is a sign on the desk that there is NO service over the weekends, all day Saturday and Sunday ! So NO restaurant, NO breakfast, NO room service meals, NO maid service, NO room servicing at all !!!! If you want a clean towel etc you must go to the front desk and get one, but the desk is only open from 9am to 5pm !!!
I have never experienced this in a hotel anywhere before - has anyone else had this happen to them ??

The closest we have had to this was in Helsinki but we knew what we were in for. The Omena hotels basically operate with you seeing no staff. You get in the front door via a code, if required breakfast is pre-supplied in the room & you have a strict check-out time. When the Aussie $ was a wreck & we were going through Helsinki (expensive for us at the time) we thought this was a reasonable compromise (room facilities were excellent at the time) Cheap hotels in Helsinki and Finland | Omena Hotels
