I thought "support animals" had to fit in a cage under the seat?

What about Leeks?
Leeks don't go with this particular stew. Leek with rice is quite nice. Mum usually has leaks in the vegetable garden that are over 1 metre tall and taste nice.

Briami Stew :)
I didn't realise that was the name. I guess vegetable casserole would be a more accurate description. Wife says the casserole was very nice and was feeding daughter this morning. Daughter does not usually like vegetables but she was eating this morning.

In the mid 90s I was keen on triathlons, ironman etc and decided to ring AIS one day to see if they could answer a question on hydration/energy/recovery.

Long story short, 2 year experiment later....

Absolute best recovery food/drink/substance bar none for improving hydration, muscle recovery/rebuilding etc etc - cut up whole oranges consumed within 30 minutes of exercise end. Any longer for delay and benefits reduced substantially.

<snip>

Doesn't help the tens of billions sport's nutrition market but sure helps your own hip pocket.

I'm curious if you also tested milk? A popular thought at the moment seems to be chocolate milk (or plain milk) after exercise for recovery. My physio also recommended milk for my daughter who was complaining about tiredness after basketball training.

QF WP I could make it so you could just have the beer in your hand. The latest wifi enabled watering system means you have two hands back for the more important things.

OK, I'll bite.

Yes, there is a program called Safe Schools. From their website:
"Safe Schools Coalition Australia offers a suite of free resources and support to equip school staff with knowledge, skills and practical ideas to create safer and more inclusive school environments for same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students, staff and families."

There are young children in our society who are expressing to their family and caregivers that they do not associate with their biological sex, and they associate with the sex that does not match their reproductive organs. They want to wear clothes of the other sex, change their name, and live as though they were the sex they feel they are.
In earlier generations/years, children who expressed such feelings would have been told to suppress those feelings, ignore them, and so on. But in our current society, parents, caregivers, teachers, communities are encouraged to try to understand and accept when someone within their society chooses to live as the sex they identify with.

Basically, part of the aim is to ensure children, parents, teachers, and members of the community are not bullied or attacked if any of them, not just the children, transition and publicly identify as the opposite sex.

I have watched friends deal with one of their children transitioning from female to male. All I have seen is fierce love and support from the family, but also all of them encountering many, many hurdles and challenges throughout this process. It's not simple. No-one undertakes it lightly, or in a bid to perv on the opposite sex in the toilets.

I don't know or understand what it feels like to feel as though I was born in the wrong body. Nor does my child. But I know the devastation of having your primary school aged child say that they don't deserve to be alive due to the way they are bullied at school. And my kid is "just" quirky and different, not coming to school with a new name, and dressed as though she were a boy.

I am not a medical expert merely an annoying person who keeps asking questions until a question is answered!

Unfortunately being a chocolate/strawberry milk fan - I did.

As an alternative to oranges - FAIL. As an adjunct - PASS. The protein and minerals in milk help provide a much slower absorption rate for the fluid - so more gets into the blood stream rather than the bladder. The protein directly helps in the muscle rebuild/repair. And all that evil sugar - well you can't have everything!

For a youngster - that sugar should not be anywhere such an issue as long as their total sugar intake is not excessive. While the calcium is invaluable.

Having had daughters and discovering the way females at school can practice psychological warfare as well as any Govt - bullying amongst girls is a much more SERIOUS issue IMHO than with boys normally. The psych warfare can be lifelong damaging.

  • Have you sat down with your daughter and asked her if she would mind if you tried to do something about it as you can see how unfair this all is?
  • Have you approached the school (yes 4/5 times I ask the question the answer is yes)?
  • Have you put IN WRITING to the school your concerns about the bullying?
  • If so was the response you got back written or a phone call?

Conversations have a strange habit of being forgotten in certain cases. Written audit trails are invaluable. If conversations/phone calls are the response then send an email asap afterwards and just confirm YOUR recollection of what they said.

Once it is written then it becomes official and makes people responsible/liable. It is disheartening that parents should need to resort to this approach to get something done.

You know your daughter and you need to do what is best for her.

RAM - the primary culprits are boys, not girls. And while I went to all-girls' schools from grade 5-12, and do not under-estimate how vicious and damaging girls (and women!) can be to one another, the bullying from boys is one of the reasons I want her to go to an all-girls' high school.

Right now, I believe the school is policing it well. I know one of the older boys won't go near her as he knows he will get into trouble. Our deputy principal has recently left for another school, so I'm trying to keep an eye on things - he had been one of my main contacts and knows the history here.

We've been hesitant to move school because she is so quirky, and does not make friends easily. She has some firm friendships with a core, small group of girls at the school, who are a positive influence and support network. She's started at cubs and basketball within the last 18 months, but has few friends in either group.

Thank you for the tips and comments, RAM.

Looked like a "Go Around". Got down to 1000ft over City west Link near Norton St, Leichhardt when it went round again at 2153hrs.
Maybe an aircraft did not vacate the runway quickly enough - TT287 SYD-MEL departing at 2153 just before EK414 first landing attempt possibly the culprit.

Thanks!

I am so used to the sound living under the flight path but every so often one just sounds different than normal and this was one of those times.

Have you tried fried tofu in the mix?

Extended family member does half/ full marathons - she swears by chocolate milk and crumpets and honey afterwards.

Chocolate milk has always been my go to when I am feeling dusty after a big night out too.

...so more gets into the blood stream rather than the bladder.

For anything swallowed to get into the bladder it has go be firstly absorbed through gut into the intestinal bloodstream first. From there it all goes into the liver to be processed before into the general circulation. Blood is filtered by the kidneys producing the filtrate called urine draining into bladder.

Edited ...... ...saw this today on the outsiders could believe it it's called safe schools and they say it's new form of child abuse. Teaching about Gender Fluidity

I think its child abuse to force a person into a society perceived male or female role, when the person identifies as something else.

Life is too long to be miserable and some kids need safe place because sometimes its home that the battle ground, sometimes its the play ground, the bus trip to school ect thats the battleground.

If one kid stops thinking about suicide because someone told them that they are OK the way they are and/or they will be safe with them/the school then the program worked and should be supported.

I cant imagine having to live my life as a farce just so other people can feel righteous about their beliefs in how I should live my life.

Some scientific evidence (peer reviewed) that chocolate milk is good for recovery. Right balance of protein/sugar. The catch is that these type studies are often done in athletes who put in harder efforts than the regular weekend warriors. For most people exercising, I'm sure water, time, and our inbuilt adaptation system are enough.

I'm biting as well, I strongly disagree with everything about the safe schools program.

I had written a fair bit about why but just deleted it, I am not here to debate my opinion or justify my reasoning. I am sure some other members will disagree with me, as is their right.

This is a FF forum and I am here for FF fellowship and wine content.

Went to Brisbane DFO yesterday again for day out. Slightly hungry and we decided we'd buy the overpriced calamari and large potato chips. We sat down and wife asked why I didn't get sauce. I said they are charging 80c for sauce. She said we don't need sauce.

I know most people don't care but 80c for a bit of sauce to go with $6.50 overpriced large chips? I could have walked to Woolworths and bought a bottle of sauce that would last us years for not much more.

What about QUOTE=Quickstatus;1681664]Have you tried fried tofu in the mix?
I try to avoid tofu where possible unless it is hidden in one of my meals.

Yes but dont call it "safe schools". Call it plainly what it is. A discussion about gender fluidity. The pushback was because it was dressed up as something else.

There are different varieties of tofu - taste and texture can be very different

Cant imagine begrudging my spouse in having a 80 cent packet of sauce.

Maybe you can collect the ones at McDonalds to keep a ready packet on hand? Maybe a bouquet of free Maccas sauces for Valentines next year? We can do a AFFer collection for you.
