Cant imagine begrudging my spouse in having a 80 cent packet of sauce.
For me it's a matter of principle. Similar to Hvr's shoe laces.

As an aside what would that packet of sauce cost to manufacture? 2c? 3c? 5c? In many places it is complimentary if you purchase food. In other places they may charge 20c for the sauce. At 80c it's extortion.

Why you shouldn't think you are safe behind all those bollards and lumps of concrete going in:

Forensic mechanical engineer interview on RN says don't rely on all those ugly concrete bollards being put about to stop a big truck intent on driving mayhem for a number of reasons to do with clearance under the truck, speed, mass and especially if the bollards have just been placed on the surface of a smooth pavement.

Using Dr Google to figure out why Ive had this dry cough for the past 2 or 3 months. I can almost stop myself from coughing but otherwise, its every hour or so. Drives me nuts. I dont smoke, havent been sick, staying hydrated, never had asthma and its most noticeable during the day because of air con and at night because of temperature changes (we dont use aircon at home).

Dr Google hasnt declared me dead or dying yet so thats always a plus when using it.
Edit: I take it back, I just got to the Mayo website for Dr Google Dead or Dying.... :)

You'd be lucky to get the raw ingredients for that, then there is factory labour, operating expenses and overheads, food safety audits and certifications, insurances, marketing expenses like artwork creation, packaging design and rewind and outers printing, warehousing, distribution and delivery costs, QA testing/ sampling etc etc

Lucky if places include it free, they are having to absorb that cost themselves.

$6.50 for calamari and chips is also very cheap - doubt there would be much margin in that for a retailer - taking into account rent, utilities, insurance, labour etc

I read it as the chips alone was $6.50.

Some places do provide the sauce for free but others are happy to charge for the convenience, that's life isn't it.

Current view from my office. The corner it hit is the babies/toddler daycare room play area. An hour earlier, the toddlers would have been all outside in the rooftop area.

Yes, but most people find that inconvenient so if they really want sauce, will pay the 80c.
I can do without the sauce.

The calamari was $7 for 6 small-medium rings. I wouldn't buy either as I can wait until I get home. Wife and daughter were hungry.

I understand labour costs are high in Australia. I was interested in why the sauce was so expensive. Here are some prices if they do indeed use the packets of sauce

- Masterfoods Tomato Sauce portion control 14g carton 100 = $23.15 or 23 cents each
- Kraft Tomato sauce portion control 11g Box 50 = $7.55 or 15 cents each

And that's me buying retail. If your business can't wear the cost of 1 packet of sauce there is something wrong.

I didn't realise that was the name. I guess vegetable casserole would be a more accurate description. Wife says the casserole was very nice and was feeding daughter this morning. Daughter does not usually like vegetables but she was eating this morning.

Who knows? I made that name up. There are vegetarian dishes that go under the title of stew....

$6.50 for calamari and chips is also very cheap - c

At one of my lunchtime haunts - seafood shop does very well at lunchtime.
$10 for barramundi with chips, salad and a can of drink. The special fish changes everyday.
Free squirt of sauce bottle to boot.

Re the 80c sauce. Ill never get it. It should be complimentary like water. They are going to charge for napkins?

They are pretty poor, IMHO,harking back to the levels in the RSL ( -:) ), but at least it is not Member, Discoverest, Explorist, etc.

Personally I don't think those with with Senior, Veteran are hilarious!:) When's AFF going to set up its own AFF old age home,

RAM - the primary culprits are boys, not girls. And while I went to all-girls' schools from grade 5-12, and do not under-estimate how vicious and damaging girls (and women!) can be to one another, the bullying from boys is one of the reasons I want her to go to an all-girls' high school.

Right now, I believe the school is policing it well. I know one of the older boys won't go near her as he knows he will get into trouble. Our deputy principal has recently left for another school, so I'm trying to keep an eye on things - he had been one of my main contacts and knows the history here.

We've been hesitant to move school because she is so quirky, and does not make friends easily. She has some firm friendships with a core, small group of girls at the school, who are a positive influence and support network. She's started at cubs and basketball within the last 18 months, but has few friends in either group.

Thank you for the tips and comments, RAM.

I endured bullying at an all boys private school - I attended from Year 6 to 12. l wasn't in any of the "cool" groups, didn't live in the "correct" suburbs or play the "required" Rugby Union (although I got some kudos for playing cricket but not soccer/football). That has shaped my idea not to send my son there (plus it's on the other side of BNE from where I live now).

I think we need to get our daughters together more often. Sounds like peas in a pod, but I think she has been spared the worst of the bullying, as we also keep a close eye on things. A pity that my cousin just applied for the substantive principal role, got to the final interview stage but lost out to the acting principal. He'd have been a good influence

I missed it too. So I'm an overnight 'Senior'. If I'm going to be tagged like that, I'd much rather it be 'Relaxed and comfortable' or maybe 'Mildly sozzled' .

How about PAAN description for most of those who post on the wine forums? :)

Go to the Doc and get a blood test and x-ray. Better off being safe.
