I finally got around to checking out Vue de Monde to see what all the fuss was about. Took the other half there for dinner to celebrate his birthday yesterday. OMG it was the best meal ever, and the service was sublime!! We took the Gastronomy Menu, which featured 10 courses and 3 amuse bouches. We loved every single dish, but my faves were perhaps the Kingfish topped with ossietre caviar and the King Mushroom rissoto topped with shaved truffles. Started the evening with some Dom Perignon 2000 (his fave), but we couldn't be bothered going through and choosing from 1300 different wines and so we went with the Wine Degustation which all went so well with the food.

Needless to say I'm still bloated this morning...:oops:

Now I'll need to find another special occassion to have a reason to go back there....

Maybe not next month, maybe not soon.

I'm sure the cost rivals that of a political function, but I admit I do enjoy a good degustation.

Appears to be starting from $150 for 5 courses up to $250 for full menu with gourmet ingredients. I'm assuming this is inclusive of matching wines.

For what it seems (and if QF009's review is accurate), that's a fantastic price for the experience. Although 10 course menu, you'd probably be there for at least 3.5 hours.

5 course Gourmand Menu $150 per person. 10 course Gastronomy Menu $250 per person. The latter was a no brainer.

Wine Degustation ranges from $15-$30 per glass, so depends on your preference, how much you drink etc. We had repeat pours of a few that we loved which pushed up the price a little. In the end I think our drinks cost nearly as much as the food.

That menu anat0l posted was exactly what we had last night. We did v well ploughing through it all until we got to the souffle, of which we were only able to half finish. :oops::lol:

edited to add: oh and the beef was Wagyu with a 9+ marble score. :)

Oh, wine is extra on top. Ouch price, lucky for me I am not a heavy drinker (I probably couldn't manage 10 pours of different wine).

Although, if one goes the full 10 courser, then adds just the "normal" and not premium range, $400 per head for a dinner like that isn't awfully bad.

EDIT: Just reviewed the wine selection from the 'Experience' page of their web site. I assume that not all of the wines they served are put up there (there are less than 10 for the premium range). I can see how some of those though easily account for the price tag.

$500 for a night out? A very long night out! Not a bad one. But it'll have to wait until I have $500 easily disposable lying around...... (and possibly another $500 for the right person to join me)

The wine menu we had at the restaurant was way more comprehensive than the website. I think the ones we had were mostly in the mid $20s to $30 range per glass. It's a v good concept, and removes all personal bias in the selection process. Though they do take into account your preferences, eg we told them I'm a pinot noir person whilst the boyf enjoys Cab Sav, and we're both mad about Tempranillos, a wide variety of wine was served in between and I tasted some truly delightful ones that I wouldn't normally had gunned for. Some were pretty meh on first taste, however it would seem they were all expertly chosen as they ended up working marvellously with the particular course they were matched with.

Truly whetted our appetite for part 2 of the celebration - Margaret River wineries on VIC labour day weekend. :cool:

At that price I can't see me visiting that place anywhere soon.

You need to find us a place for dinner on Saturday 24 April as part of the F lounge run.

Trying to decide what to do on Sunday 25 April while in Melbourne.

Different weekends though. While your long weekend is happening this weekend, in Victoria Labour Day is on 8 March. Gotta love how the states manage to get the holidays at different times!
