There was a time many years ago when Melbourne was the richest city in the world. Those times are gone now and it is being covered up by a real estate surge that many are calling a Ponzi. Both Victoria and WA have had poor State Governments buggering lots of things up.

We don’t have toll roads, daylight saving nor pubs with gambling machines in WA.
2 of those things are good.

I still remember in 2005-2006 where there was no Sunday trading apart from a 1-2 km square km area in the centre of Perth.

Actually WA has been subsidising the rest of Australia apart from NSW-

That is only for the last ten years.

But it is new territory for Western Australia. Up to WWII it was the poor, white trash of Australia. And once the Federal Government took over income tax in 1942, and massively increased the disbursement of revenue to the states, WA has for most of that time received more than its "fair share":

When looking at total general revenue assistance paid to the states, as late as 2008, WA was getting as much over its population share as was South Australia, and from the end of WWII till the middle of the 1980s, it consistently received a bigger relative slice than did either Queensland or South Australia.

Now sure, Western Australians might think they are being penalised for being successful, just as they may also think that success is due to their great skill in living on top of a shirt load of iron ore. But being part of a nation means that when you have been relying on other states for the better part of a century, and then the times come good, you also return the favour.

Want to go it alone, WA? Good luck with that

WA is going through a major phase of growth in LNG exports so we won’t be left behind. Victoria is in decline with Bass Strait running down and manufacturing turning off lights.
WA has much greater prospects than most Australians understand.

This poor woman that died in Fiji.

If they had insurance, which the husband says they did, why is he pushing the GoFundMe page and talking about her parents drawing $60K on their mortgage to bring her home?

Insurance won’t release money until cause of death is established.

This scares SA way more than the worst flu epidemic. Maybe they will kick out our Govt.

Ah, I guess that explains it. Cant he transfer her body via commercial flight? The US brings home military personal on Delta ect so its not unheard of.

Least if it's against the wall - it's not collecting the bacteria floating around! Don't know about you but my bathroom walls get wiped at least weekly!

The top of the roll is exposed to the air regardless of which way you have it facing, so you're still getting germs on the front of the paper...

Our house is old so it gets dusty every single day. Esp the bathroom. I really want a new house.

After living in a 60 year old weatherboard that was expert at making dust, I'm really loking forward to our new house.

Sure but the US governenmenf would pay mega $$$$ for that. The coffin would need to be treated differently to normal cargo and maybe even infectious until cause of death established.

Yep, Same here. And I swear dust comes up through the floorboards/carpet as well. Just have to be patient for a few years for the KDR on the house, we've already got the builder/house picked out.

And ceiling. Windows. And just - everywhere.

Gave a coworker lots of tips and her kids about $25 in coins for their trip to Japan.

I got goodies this morning :)

They had a great time, she said best trip ever and she was alone with 3 kids. Kids have asked to go back to Japan, said it was more fun (less stressful) than Disney.

Is anyone reading “Dirty John” in the Los Angeles Times? I just read the fifth of six installments and a John sure is creepy.

Read part 1 and 2, creepy yes, not sure if i want to read the rest, maybe I should read the final part just to read the end.

Certain skill in picking people; what was it 4 marriages, she wasn't good at picking her men.

Well the information in that link certainly didn't support the headline.WA gets way less of the GST than they pay. They also get less in General Assistance than their population share. So if they had the same income tax rates and GST rate they would have a sizeable increase in Government income.
On the cost side they already have a Government and public service so not a lot of extra cost involved.
As to an army and navy why would they need them.Costa Rica does OK without an army.Plus it might be in the best interests of the rest of Australia if they kept a base in WA so more income from WA.
But it is not going to happen anyway.
