I live on a dirt road, with a 200 mtr dirt driveway..... I am ALWAYS going to have dust. Add to that a fire place in winter, I get dust and soot...... When you live on a farm.....
Mmmmm, I resemble that

SA budget facing $557 million a year hit under planned GST changes

No so good for you Pushka? (and other AFFers from SA)

On the other hand, we have our issues here as well. The land in question is directly in front of our building.
Species face further threats in Barton
FWIW the NCA did not publicise the 'local meeting' or consultation to residents who live in the area. We found out about the draft report/planning request in the paper!
I can imagine the angst.

Next door neighbour has brought in 2 bee hives. Yesterday morning there was a cloud of bees between our garage and fence.

My daughter is back soon. I don't want the bee hives anywhere near my residential property.

The loser is long term unemployed and has a number of beehives in backyards around Sydney. I wonder if Centrelink and the ATO knows he is running a business? Have gone to council and local member first.

I'm all for people keeping bees - I let someone keep hives on my place over winter.

Sounds like he hasn't located the hive very well in your case

Has anybody done a study estimating how much $$$ the East has subsidised WA?

Well the information in that link certainly didn't support the headline.WA gets way less of the GST than they pay. They also get less in General Assistance than their population share. So if they had the same income tax rates and GST rate they would have a sizeable increase in Government income.
On the cost side they already have a Government and public service so not a lot of extra cost involved.
As to an army and navy why would they need them.Costa Rica does OK without an army.Plus it might be in the best interests of the rest of Australia if they kept a base in WA so more income from WA.
But it is not going to happen anyway
.

WA substantially subsidises much of the east, especially Tasmania. I think the way the 'GST carve-up' formula works is that it looks at (for instance) how much mineral royalty WA gets and says "OK, that's because of natural endowment, not because anything you have done, so you'll get less GST to compensate the less naturally endowed states".

In Tasmania, we do have natural resources, but the past Labor/Green (mainly the Green part) was overtly hostile to the mining and forestry industries and effectively closed the formerly large forestry industry (so much so that the wooden cladding that's on the new Macq 1 hotel had to be brought in from Victoria ). Greenie Graham Wood (Wotif) bought the Triabunna woodchip mill and closed it, sending sawmillers out of business because they had no outlets for their sawn waste. There are plenty of minerals! But green tape has strangled the mining exploration sector.

That's by way of saying I'm embarrassed at how much we in Tas sponge off WA in particular. WA exploits its natural resources and gets penalised. "We" lock up our resources and cadge off the productive states.

Now the Greenies are trying everything they can to close down (yes, totally close down) the Atlantic Salmon industry here, one of the growing, successful, healthy food producing sectors on the island, which employs mostly in rural areas. Of course the Greenies live in Hobart, Sydney and Melbourne, not places like Zeehan or Triabunna ....

All I can think of is...why? Obviously you are are very organised person. I shan't show you my wardrobe.
I have too many good clothes (Carla Zampattie, Anthea Crawford suits, cashmere jumpers) that I no longer wear to work, I have to keep them covered from the fine dust. Just easier to have everything covered in plastic. Think I will end up having a big eBay sale, don't see me working back in a carpeted office & dealing with clients again. Only hubbys tux and dinner suits are covered on his side......

I doubt that SA would lose too much from the GST review as it would mean the end of one C Pyne.
Now Tassie,ACT and the NT have no federal Coalition MHRs.Guess who I think will lose the most.

Yes, though we have always known that the back block would be built on. The front is home to the rare moth and is remnant grassland from the area before settlement. Unfortunately the block is not well tended and is a bit of a wasteland. It could be so much better. The report that DoF commissioned is very thorough! But one thing is the new light rail which may impact a little depending on the preferred route. Unlikely to go down National Cct as it is too narrow but may cut though the back near DFAT. There are a lot of chalk lines and flags at present as the surveyors have been busy. No decision expected for a while.

Don't you live on a farm? Sorry but in my opinion beehives don't belong in residential areas.

And I believe there is no provision in the law that allows you to keep beehives in residential areas.

If we don't have enough bees we're going to struggle to produce enough food so please let them be (sorry)

I don't think it's illegal to keep bees

You don't need a law that says you can keep bees in a residential area - default position is you can unless there is a law prohibiting or regulating it.

I too agree with bees in suburbia. We need bees in nature - without their pollination of food sources, we'd be a little bit screwed.

From what I remember JohnK is talking about an ordinary suburban block which means there is not much space between properties. My daughter is allergic to bee stings so I certainly wouldn't be very happy with bee hives so close.

Though from memory plastic is not ideal to cover clothes. Perhaps you need calico bags.

I was sitting out on our rear deck in the sun last week, having my morning coffee and just admiring the blooms in the courtyard - clematis, rhododendrons, azaleas, blueberrys, freezias, camelias, etc, when it struck me - the quiet and serenity.

My first thought was, where are the bees? There weren't any and this place should have been really humming.

When I looked around all I could see were a few bees working the cherry blossom next door.

We really need more bees around.

Without the local suburban beekeepers, my tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, capsicums, cherries, plums, lemons, zucchinis, cherries, apples and plums would have a harder time to fruit.
