Agree, we need more bees. They don't sting you for the fun of it, I'm happy to live around many bees. I have a tree out the front that actually hums all day in early spring, there are so many bees.

Yes our garden is awash with colours too. We have plenty of bees and I am wishing the blueberry had taken off with a growth spurt. In Spring it is delightful to have half an acre with two bird baths to watch the birds frolicking.

From what I remember JohnK is talking about an ordinary suburban block which means there is not much space between properties. My daughter is allergic to bee stings so I certainly wouldn't be very happy with bee hives so close.
Our block is ~500 sq m. The block next door is half the size of our block. The person is renting. He is long term unemployed. In fact I do not think he has had a job since he migrated from Greece. I think there is some friction between him and my parents.

My daughter is about to start walking. She will be outside a lot. I do not feel comfortable with an uncontrollable swarm of bees around her like we had yesterday.

When I was 7 or 8 years old back in the motherland there was a swarm of bees on one of the trees in the front yard of the house we were renting. Me being the smart child started throwing rocks at them and then they started chasing me as you would. I was stung on the cheek. From memory I was stung only once. Went to school that day and had to leave early to go to the pharmac_ as one side of my face was swollen from the bee sting.

I don't think I am allergic to bees but I don't think bee hives belong in medium-high density residential areas. Obviously others here do not agree.

I'm ok with bees fluttering around the garden but John said a swarm, if true that's not ok.

Why would they swarm, I thought happy queen, happy nest.

I wouldn't be ok with a hive next door, if it made me afraid to go outside.

We have bee hives on top of buildings in the middle of Adelaide CBD. They are kept by a restaurant/Hotel who then collects the honey to serve to clients.

Bees will swarm where they want to regardless of having a hive near by. We have had 2 in our lifetime swarm in our garden. I’ve been stung 3 times and swell. That isn’t an allergy as such. Allergy = can’t breathe and shock. As a kid we had flowering trees in the street that caused issues.

Just make sure there’s no water lying around your house to attract them. And that neighbour has plenty of water his side.

Conclusion: Don't allow daughter to throw rocks at bees and she should be fine.

As a kid I was stung by bees and wasps, stung by jellyfish, bitten by jackjumper ants, stung by something in the leaf litter and pecked by plovers. I also fell out of a tree, dropped a log on my foot, got burnt by a firework; I could go on :) ... just part of growing up.

The doctors in the house may well correct me, but I believe swelling = allergy and can't breathe = anaphylaxis.

Before marriage, Im sure my husband wasnt aware there was a wrong way to squeeze toothpaste out of the tube.

Im sure he still gets it wrong to annoy me.

There is always localised swelling where the sting is; if the swelling occurs systemically - ie not where you are bitten - thats the allergy and its usually the throat.

Ummm, the more I am 'told' to do things the less likely I am to comply (unless its a border official). Just sayin....

In Sydney I would be more worried about Sydney Funnel Web spiders and various snakes in the backyard.

My maternal Grandmother at the age of 95 was out in her garden pruning her roses.Stung by a bee.Died 30 minutes later from anaphylaxis.
Quite frankly I wouldn't mind the same exit.

As well there is no way you can ban bees from cities. They are essential for pollination of many fruits and veggies. With power prices going the way they are it will soon become a necessity for quite a few to grow their own veggies.

As a youngster I made a fair bit of pocket money supplying RNSH with live funnel web spiders for their research and vaccines.Easy to catch and never bitten.

Plastic Surgery Leaves Travelers Stranded With Passports That Don’t Match Their Faces - One Mile at a Time
It’s believed that the three women, who remain unidentified, had taken the advantage of the ‘Golden Week’ and travelled to the neighbouring South Korea to undergo plastic surgery.

The picture was said to be posted by Jian Huahua, a Chinese news anchor, on her social media on October 8.

The post claimed that the three women had been prevented from leaving the airport. They were waiting for their identities to be confirmed.

Training a husband is a never ending job ! ;)
Like kids. Just as you think they've learned something a new issue crops up.
Think you are very wise organising all those remote locations for drron as retirement. Shhh, dont tell him what you've done there.

Oohh. I didnt see you posted in this thread.. ooopsie

About the bees - you never know in SA the boffins might try harnessing their wing flaps for energy.

It would be a bit boring if we did.
Do you have a plan to eliminate bees in your/your parents back yard? it may be easier just to stay indoors
Think my brother used a hose to spray water between garage and fence. Not sure if that's a good idea but did the trick.

Secondly follow up with council. As far as I'm aware the local member has asked council to deal with the issue.

If all above fail then Centrelink and ATO will be contacted.

Swarm of bees is unacceptable. Mum was terrified before my brother acted.

Not sure that Centrelink and ATO would be much interested. Even if he is on benefits there is nothing to stop him having a hive and can still make some money if under the threshold. Think the two agencies have bigger fish to fry.
