The totally off-topic thread

The Governor is launching our book in December. Sent an e-mail to her Private Secretary on Monday to get arrangements finalised before I go o/s next Monday (we've e-mailed a lot to this point).

As no reply so far, I called; person who answered said that he was out and they had terrible e-mail problems during the week, so he probably didn't see the e-mail. Would I like to leave a message?

I read a message, whereupon she said she would e-mail that to him.

I suggested that maybe that's not a good idea under the circumstances. Reply "But I can't tell him, because he is out."

Totally support this ruling

Surrogacy nightmare for Australian couple

The fact that the surrogate had discussions with an adoption agency and its representative was at the hospital for the birth to take delivery of the child while both genetic parents were sitting in another room is horrifying.

I suspect there is much more to the surrogates behaviour that we haven’t seen either. But alluded to. Threatening to abort if they don’t concede is awful.

People take surrogacy too lightly. Pregnancy changes people.

But let's not forget that either party can hold the other to ransom. It can get very ugly as obviously this surrogacy has become very ugly.

By the time you even think of surrogacy you’ve been through the wringer. The surrogate - possibly. Unless you are a US non celeb.

Sounds like what I used to have when trying to set up ministers to attend our graduation ceremonies. :p
Not sure if we ever got an actual minister but did have shadow ministers and of course the government then needed to send along someone. The of course there was the issue of who got to sit where, who got to speak and who got to present the certificates. Glad our mob were pretty laid back!

We are inviting pollies to the launch; here in Tas each electorate has 5 members, usually 3 govt and 2 opposition. One federal member of course.

Most of them we secretly don't want to come but a couple would be nice (we are volunteer, non profit etc etc). The reply we got from one 'engagement secretary' of one of the pollies was jaw droppingly bad ("Dear Sir/Madam", when the invitation was on our letterhead, personally from our female President ) and at some stage I will attempt to fully embarrass the person with it (even though they are from 'my' side of politics - I'm an equal-opportunity stirrer).

Have also invited all our local councillors and a week after the RSVP cut-off, only 2 out of 7 had replied. Again, for most of them, we don't care at all!

Surrogacy is something I/we have thought about. It's not easy and can be very messy.

For the AFL fans... Fremantle has played an absolute blinder at the trade table today. Nabbing pick 2 to go with pick 5 in the draft. Remarkable.
Not really. I am a Bulldogs supporter and can confirm the Suns recruiter Scott Clayton is a horrible recruiter. He recruited Jarrad Grant not once but twice.

Our beautiful dog Sally crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon. 17 years she has been on the farm with us. I am proud that we gave her a good life.
Very sad to hear this, giving her having "a good life" is something to treasure.

We have friends in London who cannot come home until their old dog has passed away. I must say I was impressed to see the dog sitting up in a First Class train seat going to Edinburgh because it could. Returning to Australia would involve a lengthy quarantine which would be too cruel for an aging dog.

Sorry to hear, Bindibuys. Its a good life when those left behind are so saddened when he/shes gone.

She doesn't come across as all that pleasant. Demanding the kid back so she can put it up for adoption is bizarre. I'm sure there's plenty to the story we aren't aware of on both sides of the argument.

Yes, it is a big step. Though we don't usually hear much about the ones where things go as planned, except for the articles in women's magazines about mothers or sisters carrying for daughters etc.

Having one of those weeks. Yesterday our wardrobe caved in (apparently the builder thought glue was sufficient to hold the shelf/rail up).
Today I discovered a shipment for my business was sent to the old address (despite having my new address) and the courier left it on the doorstep ("signed for by front door"). Hoping it turns up as its several thousand dollars worth.
