The totally off-topic thread

They are both at fault. But only one went on to assault and was luckily restrained. And it wasn’t a first offence.

I've never appreciated Warner - mainly for his batting style, which may be fine in the 'tippety-run' formats, but he irresponsibly takes it into dodgy situations in the test arena. My contributions on the sledging issue are mainly for the benefit of one contributor here who makes uneducated ex-cathedra dogmatic statements about a subject they seem to know little about.

All this talk about changing a <edit, thanks Hvr> tyre. Now, mending a tyre is where its at <ducks>. :)

Thought in this new world men and women are equally expected to change a car tyre?

It is a new world but as per usual, women use their brain power and offer to phone NRMA.

Again, just because I can change a tyre doesnt mean I have to.

Said the same thing to my 24yr niece who lives 8hrs away and I bought her a 2 year NRMA membership recently because I found out she had a flat battery. Just because she can manage it herself, doesnt mean she has to.

Flat tyre on Hubbys brand new ute.

Phone NRMA and hubby hides while guy changes tyre or be a man and admit you just don't care to change it yourself and get monies worth out of NRMA membership?

I’m not generally interested in changing a tyre either, unless there’s no other option. All too often they (tyres) go flat / puncture when you are least prepared and most inappropriately dressed for such action. And I certainly won’t do it on the side of a highway, I would try for some spot well clear if possible

Correct but if a man calls nrma he has to man up if he couldn’t be bothered either?

Once I had to call NRMA batteries to replace dead battery. He came but could not find his tools. Apparently left them at last job.

No worries I said - “here is a selection of ratcheting gear spanners you can use”

Some people carry tools in their car additional to the silly ones that come with the car.

Let’s rework that. I think it’s more like men taking the sensible option and getting someone who has all the safety equipment to replace the tyre quickly and safely ;). Like women have been doing for years.

Top Gear has prepared me to fix a tyre.... thats if Im ever stuck in the artic with a norwegian crew, a Hilux, a can of lighter fuel and a lighter.

To be honest, it would have been interesting to see my husband get the spare tyre out from under the Dmax. Because thats where they are hidden, under the rear cab.

But then again he often surprises me by knowing these things when I dont expect him to.

What safety equipment do you need to change a tyre?
Really seriously asking that question? How about on a busy road. Right side tyre blown. Traffic coming from behind. You have to be on the road. Maybe even dark as at night time. Thinking - beacons to warn cars behind of situation, diverging them to the right, RAA flashing yellow light, high viz vests. And didnt you just read of others posting the deaths of people they’ve known? Additionally the jacks in cars are pretty rubbish. RAA know exactly where the jack needs to be positioned on the car for best leverage, and their equipment is heavy duty including the drill to unscrew and rescrew. It’s a no brainer. Oh, that is the issue.

The last time we had a flat tyre at home we had to call the RACQ because Ron couldn't get the wheel nuts off - they had been put on with one of those electric air compressor thingys - and were not budging  no matter how much he tried !!

Me - if I have a flat tyre - the first thing I do is get out the RACQ card :D

Hubby just phoned to tell me he replaced the toilet seat but "had to use the angle grinder to strip off a bit to make it fit flush"

 Me: This isnt some sort of redneck repair fix and Im going to come home to duct tape and jagged plastic on the toilet seat?

He says hes going to send me a photo. Told him I dont need photos of toilet seats sent to my office email.

I should have made him change the tyre and called the handyman for the toilet seat.

Oh. Be very careful when sitting that he hasn’t created structural and integrity issues with that arrangement then.
