If what you are saying discriminates against a group of people (ie gay people in this case), then it shouldnt be said. He's entitled to his belief, he is not entitled to discriminate against others because they don't live the same way he does.
Where does it end?

Muslims can't express their views about religion because they may offend Atheists.

Offending someone is not the same as discriminating against them.
Discrimination: the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.

So is expressing a basic Muslim tenet in itself Offensive or Discriminatory?

By suggesting a gay person would go to hell, I'd would say that is discrimination, as you are treating them differently on the basis of their sexuality.

But it isn’t up to us where they get sent! So all he was doing was stating a belief he has.

Is it not discriminatory to state a person may not relate their beliefs because it may discriminate against another as you are also treating them differently on the basis of their beliefs?

I'm not treating them in any way. They're welcome to believe whatever they like, I really dont care. But statements like what has been said are incredibly harmful to a lot of people.

Legislators and regulators are one thing, but seriously, sponsors? Totally free to do with their money as they like, as indeed are you.

Virgin or another Qantas competitor are totally free to sponsor the “gays all going to hell” side if they think it makes commercial sense, but I think you’ll find it doesn’t and they won’t.

Peter Fitzsimmons being an idiot really doesn’t make Folau’s comments any less odious.
As with my other post whilst discriminating on the basis of religion alone is not unlawful in Australia if it involves a question of ethnicity it may be.As 91% of Tongans are Christian it might just fit that scenario.
And so you discriminate between Folau a Christian, who believes gays go to hell, and Anthony Mundine a muslim who said all gays should be executed.I know which one should be the most condemned.

Actually GarrettM I would have preferred a 3 second answer.
We waited 4 months for an answer while we were building 16 apartments for social housing. Times have changed in the last year.
Interest only loans are getting switched to principal and interest so many borrowers monthly payments are going up between 20% and 40%. So that is a big ouch.

Offending someone is not the same as discriminating against them. <Snip>.

As far as our Human Rights Commission is concerned under Section 18C, its virtually the same thing.

'Offending' under a broad range of categories is illegal.

BTW ( re other posters), sponsors are not free to do with their dollars what they want. Cannot 'discriminate' or 'offend' ( categories) either.

Much of the hullabaloo about Falau seems to be furious virtue-signalling by those concerned (eg bandannaman). As drron noted, nary a thing about Mundine from him, nor from most anyone else on the topic. But of course Christians are easy targets, as they love their enemies. Not so for all.

Happy to be corrected, law is not my strong point. But some of those examples were unlikely to be discrimination (eg not liking the airline someone else flies).
