This is mainly directed at straitman, but we have a yearly convention on right now that is the Helipacific and UV Pacific 2010 Conference and Exhibition. There are a lot of helicopters on the lawns, and they were flying over my house yesterday. Went round this morning to take a look and found a lot of army and navy a/c too.

Hope to get a photo/video of their Sea King taking off later. It’s huge.

Ahh the joys of having offices in a few different time zones. A bit surreal operating on SF time even though I'm physically in Melbourne. Sometimes I'm not sure whether skype is a blessing or a curse.

SeaKing or Seahawk Sam?

SeaKing or Seahawk Sam?

The photo is of a SeaHawk, however there is also a Sea King, and the army have a BlackHawk, a Tiger and something else that’s small and used for training, maybe a Kiowa? I got a real good look inside the Tiger :D

I think I was drunk when my flights to Adelaide were booked. A 1015 flight out of Canberra has me leaving home at 6am which will have me at the airport by 815. I can survive with that but my flights home get me to Canberra at 2205. Now to decide whether to

a) drive home. Prefer not as there will be roos on the highway.
b) book a night in Canberra. Rydges capital hill will give me breakfast, a bottle of wine and accom for $150. Unless they have changed, their parking is free. The pavilion on northbourne has $99 and I get a newspaper, parking, accom and free inhouse movies. Hope I don't have to sleep under the newspaper on northbourne!
c) change my flight and stop an extra night in Adelaide.

Bit surprised that a SeaKing would be on show, MRH90 yes, given its the replacement for them but the Sea Kings should be in a museum!

karens, three suggestions:
a) If you head home via Kangaroo Valley, forget it, it's bad enough in daylight.
b) Mercure (Olims) had good deals last time I was There.
c) If you can handle a "pie n peas floater" stay in Adelaide !!!!!!!!!

Cheers Dee

a) I go via the Clyde Mountain when I head to Canberra. Kangaroo Valley is my usual way to get to Sydney airport. I hate the stop start traffic in Sydney on the Princes Highway.
b) Olims would be nice.
c) Am thinking of staying as I have visited Adelaide 3 times. Once when I was 7, once for work and I managed one hour in the city before being told off for not being at the pub then last year I transited Adelaide airport.
d) I could stay in town till the 1st so I fly home in my new FF year.

Well I think it’s a Sea King, looks like the photo on Wikipedia.

The markings on it were very faded.

I was surprised the SeaHawk gave more of a draft than the Sea King, but I was a little closer to the SeaHawk when it took off (15m). Was great fun.

Its a sea king Sam, Shark 21 is the callsign and was delivered in 1983! It was first on scene in Nias Island when we lost a sister ship during the Tsunami relief.

The BlackHawks/Seahawks do create a lot of rotor wash, used to love it when they beat the tower up at Bankstown on test flights after being made at the factory in Milperra, occasionally we got rides which was more fun again! I have always liked the Sikorsky's despite a lot of time on 206's and 412's.

B would be the safe and cost effective option.

You're Mr Responsible caring about me :D

I looked at some of the Queanbeyan hotels but they charge extra to check in after 11. I know I land just after 10 and would make it before 11, I just like the idea of stopping in one of the fancy Canberra hotels I never needed to stay at when I lived in Canberra.

Or if changing flight, could change to an earlier one :)

Have to say you were quick this morning at T-24 to check in and get booking sequence number one. Beat me out for number two. :) But I my seats are further forward. :D Look forward to seeing you in the morning at the QP.

Now for your return, if you choose b) don't drink the wine. Take it home and enjoy it properly.

Nah just see if you can change to an earlier flight. Save your money for another flight to the west.

Gawd, I was late to the party. Seq 18.

Tough to get a seq 1 on MEL-ADL flights in morning or early afternoon - there generally a few ex LHR/SIN connecting from QF10. (especially on the non QF82 days)

Well I am here at the CBR QP and I've arrived ahead of Karen. :D The physical journey to OzFEst
has begun.

Nudge her when she arrives. My flight has been delayed for 1 hour (so far). Wait for me or else:!:
