Hanging my head in shame.Council clean up day tomorrow.Scavengers have taken virtually all of neighbours junk but mine is untouched.Obviously very inferior junk.:(

At least you haven't had someone dump their junk on your nature strip, as happened to me a couple of years ago. I presume they resided in a neighbouring municipality

Our council spent months fixing the drains in our street. We were the unlucky ones who didn't have a car on the nature strip and came home to discover a port-a-loo on the nature strip. Mum and Dad ended up buying the crew morning tea occaisionally, especially after the port-a-loo was shifted down the road.

For any ski/board/snow/winter buffs out there, I was watching Warren Millers Endless Winter on ONE HD and they advertised his latest Australia tour along the bottom several times.

Visiting most major cities and some not-so major, but by the time they get here I’ll be away :(

I get really irritated by people who put stuff out when there's not a bulk rubbish day in site, or worst of all finding the nearest vacant lot, building site, or dark slightly hidden corner of the suburb to dump their rubbish.

I went for a walk today, and lost count of the number of pics I took of various cough dumped around the area. From bumpers, disassembled bed frames, boxes, plastic kid's furniture. Trolleys are also the worst offenders.

Graffiti also gets on my nerves - thankfully our council will normally clean it off within 48-72hrs of reporting.

I generally just take a photo of it, which gives me the GPS location in case I need it later. Then just use a website which sends all the details off to the local council and they dispatch the relevant work crew to sort it out.

Sadly this website hasn't got an app for Symbian handsets yet, but my Blackberry and iPhone cousins can take pics and report using their GPS location straight from their handsets. Their mobile web interface is too kludgy for my liking at the moment.

Yeah Fly-Tipping is endemic in society. I wonder why people can't deal with their own waste?

Well I've just had an interesting experience last night.

My status run had me finishing the day at BKK (Suvarnabhumi Airport). I'd checked my bag through to here, so I had to clear immigration to get it. (I'm aware of the flawed technique of running with a checked bag - there's no need to point that out!)

Not willing to try and justify more reasons as to why I have a silly schedule to customs, I decide to leave the bag in BKK. I will clear customs in HKG but that is transit (going out of the airport) and I will stay airside in SIN until the next day (the Skyview lounge is 24h) when I fly back to BKK via HKG. From there I clear customs again, get my bag and check it to SIN (end of the run).

The left luggage rates aren't that bad, so the bag is left in the good hands of the Chubb group which run the security all over BKK. Armed with my boarding passes (because in SIN the check-in agent had given me all my BPs in the next 48h), I went to passport control, only to be turned back because since I cleared customs I was not a transit passenger any more. I would have to check-in again, get a new boarding pass then re-attempt to clear customs. I mulled around for a bit on the landside but amidst all the other tourists sleeping on the benches, on the floor and all of that, I couldn't take it much more and I went to a different passport control point. This time I got through without much trouble. Airside was so much quieter and I slept for about 90 minutes on a bench on the G concourse until the boarding of a DL flight nearby woke me up. I never really appreciated how soft rubber seats can be until now.

I'm now in the CX Lounge in the D West concourse. Nothing special - very small lounge, no toilets or showers. It was open before the concourse G lounge, but I think I will make a move towards there soon. The Sakura Lounge also becomes an option.

As a BKK transit passenger with inbound and outbound on the one PNR you would not have had to pay the THB700 departure tax on booking.

I must say that the wireless in the Skyview lounge (in SIN T1) kicks cough. I am torrenting :p and getting download speeds of up to 400 kB/s.

Compare this to the CX Lounges in HKG, where the speed was no faster than 50 kB/s.

SIN has free wireless, although you need to sign up at the info desk to get at it. (Being lazy and considering lounges give free access, I haven't bothered).

BKK, on the other hand, requires a paid subscription for its in-airport wireless. :(

2,500-3000k/s for me @ QP NRT

Then that is indeed extremely impressive. Achieving 24Mb/s of actual throughput in such an environment is quite amazing.

Tell me about it. I'm lucky to get that at home sitting 1.5m away from my WAP!

O2 over here had an GPRS/data outage yesterday. Wasn't that happy when I was trying to send some emails while on the run, and I couldn't get a connection.

To get 24Mbps over WiFi implies no encryption in use. I can understand that in an airport lounge, but would expect you would have some encryption at home. And what sort of home internet service gets close to a real throughput of 24Mbps?

What has happened to the English language. Have I inadvertantly stepped into a parallel universe where English is no longer spoken?
