A different Off Topic.

My wife is seriously upset today as her iPhone has become seriously ill and has had to go to hospital. It would not even turn on so it may actually be deceased :!:

It has an extended warranty fortunately. :D

Could be battery… then again, did you expose it to any water?

Be careful as Apple is a bad company for doing the right thing :(

If the fault comes down to the battery (even with extended warranty - assumed AppleCare), e.g. it is depleted, does that cost money then? (Battery = consumable in most warranty circles, thus not covered under the warranty unless it was inherently faulty).

Hope you backed up the data on the phone before it decided to go AWOL.

By default an iDevice is backed up every time it is synced with the computer.

I take it that means contacts, call logs, pictures, sounds/ring tones, messages, emails, settings, etc.?

Some of it will be SIM stored but with plenty of phones using more than basic SIM capabilities it's all mostly stored on the device now, so if the device goes kaput with no backup, you're hosed.

Yeah I guess all of that. I don’t think there’s anything stored on my SIM or even an option to save to my SIM, but there’s far more space on the computer.

It was synced recently and it could not be turned on even whilst on charge. The white apple symbol appeared for about 20 seconds then it shut down again.

...and no it has not been wet.

It's always been an offence to not provide requested info to the ABS when asked. For example, some households are randomly selected to provide information, certain companies are required to provide information etc.

I don't see why this is any different. The ABS is collecting stats on the health of Australia.
I would love to be selected to provide informationtor ABS. Now whether they get the required information or not is totally irrelevant. ;)

Like my old classic iPod, R.I.P.

My 1st iPhone died after getting wet walking the dog. Dried it with a hairdryer. Took it to Apple store in George St Sydney within warranty. Was evasive with truth. Genius bar replaced it. On syncing new phone with iMac everything was there all Txts photos videos contacts. It was as if I had never replaced the phone.

I wonder if anyone has been stung by this detection device. And possibly thereafter been very sh**ty at Apple because of it.

Probably. Moisture pads are on most phones and small devices these days. Normally one to four placed around the device in various places (eg behind battery, near LCD, inside phone near earpiece, bottom of phone).

They are often falsely triggered (normally turn red or blue) from perspiration and similar sources of "water". I've heard some cases of them getting triggered when a phone has sat on a bathroom bench during a shower.

The moisture pads don't prove that a phone (or device) has been dunked in water, just that it's been exposed to moisture.

There was a small amount of water in the screen as I was walking my dog and got caught in a storm. The genius bar guy shone a light/ instrument at the bottom of the phone where it syncs and said " yep no signs of water damage" . I think these things aren't foolproof . I was indeed lucky. This is the first time I have replaced a mobile and the Apple computer backup makes it foolproof.

I hope our outcome is that good also. ;)

There's actually two parcels on their way to me. The one above is apparently in a delivery truck somewhere, and the other one arrived in London this morning, and hasn't yet been transferred to a delivery truck.

How useless are UPS at times?

I was away the first day they tried to deliver the package. No notice left (but noted it online).
Second delivery attempt I was home, but never heard a knock. (no notice left).
Third delivery attempt I was home, but no knock. (Online tracking said a note had been left)

Went Hmm, that's weird, so checked neighbour's letterbox. The Notice left in neighbours letterbox. The driver has been trying to deliver to the next door neighbours (which are behind a locked gate). They are Flat A our our address, we are the primary residence of the address, however the gate isn't overly clear that they are Flat A.

So I go online to check redelivery options. Seeing I'm near a big UPS depot, thought I would pick it up from there, so try that option .... Yep, I can pick it up - from a UPS depot 250KM away!

Or I can attempt re-delivery, but don't want the same deal happening again. Will try and call them on Monday.

I just checked and all I could see was dust, but there’s a little white circle at the bottom of the headphone jack that I know about and can see with a torch.
