What the hell is a cold night on the Sunny Coast? Is there such a thing?

Back in 1988 I recall having to wear a pair of Ugg Boots one night, even though I didn't own a pair---Mmmmm could have been the Bundy that I diluted with a few ice cubes:lol:

Cheers Dee

Yes there was one a couple of years ago.it got down to a low of 2C.Was the coldest day on record.I wasn't there in 88 so not Dee's day.

Totally off topic - if anyone likes thumpy-go-bang-doofer-doofer-repetitive music, here's my most recent promo. And I will be DJing at a club in Tokyo this June - can I now call myself a jetsetting spin doctor?

It’s good, perhaps I should come see you perform live a bit closer to home… not sure I want to travel to Japan just to see ya in action!

Unemployment in the UK is now at it's highest level since December 1994 (8% - 2.51 million people).

There are another 8 million-odd (apparently) who are unemployed and aren't looking for work.

Does show how stuffed the UK economy is, and how things aren't going to get better soon.

What would probably be a little bit more interesting is to see the list of occupations (or sectors), viz. "what's hot" and "what's not"

I'm guessing IT is unfortunately not in "what's hot".... :(

There's plenty of info here: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/pdfdir/lmsuk0510.pdf

Apparently there were 30,000 vacancies (jobs available?) in the "Information & communication" industry between Jan-Mar. Seems pretty stagnant from Feb 2009.

And overall, there were 177,000 redundancies between Jan-Mar.

There is usually about 2 or 3 weeks a year when it gets really cold in south east Queensland. Usually around Show time.
I got to sleep out under a hoochie one night when it got down to minus 2, according to the staff, at Ipswich.

Of course on the sunny coast there is also the wind chill of the evening sea breeze to consider.

Actually, the prevailing S/E winds are warmer in winter for us, comming in from the Ocean, and cooler in Summer.(bit like the Perth Doctor) It does cool down with no wind, or wind from the West or S/West, then frosts do occur on the coast.:)

Cheers Dee

I wasn't actually limiting my comment about the sea breeze to any paricular season. Just stating when it gets cool/cold. Sorry for the confusion.

I went to school in caloundra for a few years there. I certainly remember some cool summer nights with the wind coming off the sea. And of course the westerlys in winter.....

Well, I'm cranky with the *$$h*1*$ that did our bathroom reno.

Late, lousy work, heaps of other issues when we had paid extra to have a site manager, but topped off today as we were awaiting a final offer from them re: the final installment (ie. they should waive or discount it). Instead, they just send a debt collector notice. And dont answer their mobiles. Or call back.

I wont name them here, but wont hesitate to name names if i see people in person.

I had my PhD 2nd year review next week. The documentation was supposed to be in a week in advance, so I pulled an all nighter last night trying to get the documentation finished and submitted to my advisors/review panel. Got 1 hour of sleep after all of that; felt a bit zombie-ish today.

Alas, it was all for nothing. One advisor is overseas and won't be at the review, period, and he is one of the more critical members of my review panel, so he has to be there. Another advisor said that the appointment was not in his diary even though I had set it up in Outlook some time ago (and got acceptance notifications).

So now the decision will probably be that I have to postpone my review into June now. :(

At least I have more time to work on the documentation and thesis.

For those using TripIT, and thinking about going "pro" version, I just saw a promo code for $20 off

FLY 49

(a space has been added between the two parts of the promo code. Remove it)

No idea of the expiry date.

Who’d have thought an Australian would win the Monaco F1! He seems to be gaining momentum.

Watched bits of it today, mainly for the Monaco views. I was actually there on race day ~5 years ago after the race was finished. The tunnel in particular brings back memories.
