So apparently Jessica Watson was 3 hours late arriving because she was trying to avoid Rudd. And her aside to him as she came up onto the podium was something along the lines of "Well, I circumnavigated the globe in 210 days - what have you managed to accomplish?"

:)

She looked very uncomfortable on that stage with everyone initially, and did you see the size of the bunch of flowers she was presented before she met him… gargantuan!

Oh I knew that, just didn’t think it’d happen again for another 49 years ;)

I see we’ve received Facebook Connect. What’s it meant to do again, I allowed it to access my profile but can’t see any advantages?

I hate waiting for couriers. I know a parcel of mine is due to arrive today (via online tracking it was apparently with the driver at 4am this morning in London), but of course no courier yet.

Perhaps they're waiting until after hours to do the delivery.

I've had deliveries at 8pm before :)

Not that this is the "right" place to report, but a new "feature": if you are a Twitter user subscribed to @AustFreqFlyer, you will now receive a Tweet when a new forum thread is created.

But I don't want it delivered at 8pm ;)

There's actually two parcels on their way to me. The one above is apparently in a delivery truck somewhere, and the other one arrived in London this morning, and hasn't yet been transferred to a delivery truck.

Would be nice if they both turned up at the same time, but doubt that will occur - and think there will be one delivered tonight and one tomorrow night.

-- edit: Package arrived at 7pm. No sign of second package, so that will be tomorrow night.
I'm happy it arrived. It's a bday gift for someone, so needed it before Friday.

Lord have mercy, I've just realised that I passed 500 posts a while back. Only took me three and a bit years to get there. ;)

Oh god, there must be quite a few uninteresting posts a day :-|

Well, technically 1000 is the big one after 100 ;)

Sometimes I wonder what the future holds. This seems ludicrous-
Fines for refusing to take part in ABS health survey | News.com.au
UP TO 50,000 people face a fine of $110 a day if they refuse to divulge information on their health and lifestyle to Australian Bureau of Statistics researchers.
The Australian Health Survey announced in last week's Budget will be the most comprehensive research on the health of Australians ever undertaken and will be jointly funded by the National Heart Foundation.

It's always been an offence to not provide requested info to the ABS when asked. For example, some households are randomly selected to provide information, certain companies are required to provide information etc.

I don't see why this is any different. The ABS is collecting stats on the health of Australia.

Today I dropped my car off at the mechanic then ran home. According to my ipod I ran 5.77km. Luckily my neighbour drove me back into town because it was raining when I had to pick her up. Part of the problem with my car was a mouse decided to eat one of the cables. The other problem was the fuel injectors needed cleaning. $374 later my car runs so much nicer.

Hopefully they removed the mouse, otherwise the car might squeak...

The law has been around for years, just part of the beat up cycle by nonews. No one has ever been fined so nothing to see here.

I've seen media reports re people being threatened with fines ($xx per day, every day until they complied) for refusing to participate in 'compulsory' ABS surveys. What the outcomes were I do not know.

I was lucky (not) enough to be targeted for an ABS survey ~10 years ago. I respectfully declined (more accurately, ignored), but they persisted then eventually got a litle 'heavy' and advised I could be fined/imprisoned/hung, drawn and quartered if I did not participate. I was not a happy camper but caved in (gutless, but probably sensible in the end ) and did it. Cannot even recall what it was about.

They did say that I was exempt from another survey for x amount of time.

PS. The ABS has, IMHO, ludicrously expansive powers in this regard.

Not much different to the ludicrously expansive powers that our government has on forcing us to vote in elections.

In both cases, participation can be faked as a substitute practice for the refusal to participate.

Hence why some people aren’t registered voters.

But I guess it does make sense in a country where if you didn’t require people to vote you’d have a turnout of about a million, if you’re lucky. :p

*And I base my figures on nothing incase anyone wants to question them.

A different Off Topic.

My wife is seriously upset today as her iPhone has become seriously ill and has had to go to hospital. It would not even turn on so it may actually be deceased :!:

It has an extended warranty fortunately. :D
