You still got LP?

LPs are not extinct. Apparently they are still being produced, and the turntables now often occupy the premium audio market. For some the background crackles and pops and the simple but purposeful act of placing the diamond stylus on the first groove makes for superior listening experience. Like making a cup of tea

I have a few left.
There is something about the whole process of listening to an LP that takes the musical experience to a new level.
I do not however own a decent turntable :-(

People travelling long haul to get home to vote was inspiring.
Lots of Irish diaspora

It was similar with the recent Malaysian general elections. Diaspora travelling home and those that could not were able to give their postals to people travelling home. Incredibly the postal votes neede to go to the actual village where the voter was registered. Somehow many postals made it even tough the incumbent government made it difficult with the post by dates.

I remove most of the fat, leaving me with choice meat, and a spare pile of fat that is worth three times its weight in sheer calories. That is what she needs right now. Tender, juicy, huge pieces of bacon fat.

I think this is a lovely sentiment! But please consider the types of food we are going to give animals. Bacon and bacon fat is very high is salt and the type of fat is not easily digested by dogs. It can lead to upset stomachs and cause/agitate pancreatitis: Can Dogs Eat Pork? – American Kennel Club

We are all very fortunate that we can make a big difference in situations like these. While we can save one animal, it's also often the case that just a small amount of money can seriously help fund grass-roots organisations in the local area that have the networks and local ability to properly care for animals, whether we are there or not. And the same too with human welfare. Donations at the local level can have an impact many times greater than giving to a multi-national organisation where a lot of the money is swallowed up in administration. 'Sustainable' donations - like micro-finance - even better. One pot of money can be used many times over.

Very true @MEL_Traveller

When my daughters school got together for a fundraiser to donate to an organisation in Africa (Hamlins fistula)

The girls wanted to donate clothing and other goods.

I wrote a letter saying that the cost of sending goods would be high and it would be better to give money which can be spent within the local community. Increasing the money supply improves the local economy in a multiplier effect.

The school then organised the economics teacher to talk about economic concepts like money supply, and velocity of money and the

sourcing goods in Australia and shipping does not benefit the local economy in the target area.

Of course the assumption is that the money will be spent wisely. So no point giving money to a drunk, but give it to an trusted organisation

I looked up the book reviews - boy those recipes are way out there!

I'ld be happy if I can just get shortbread right.

And a PSA, if youre ever around Eilean Donan castle, go to the Manuela`s Wee Bakery across the bridge and left - fantastic bread and goodies, inc short bread. Shes a one woman show and the product is outstanding.

Salt is certainly a popular thing to knock.however bacon fat is not a source of high salt levels.
1 ounce Canadian bacon-433 mg Na.
1 ounce cured bacon-236 mg Na.
1 ounce bacon fat-8 mg Na.
Sodium in Bacon.

Certainly salt is bad in excess in those with hypertension or a likelyhood of developing. However I come from a family with high salt intake-no one had hypertension or significant coronary artery disease.I am now part of a low salt family.Sometimes the cramps get so bad I devour salt and feel a lot better-my blood pressure remains to the low side despite that.

The Japanese have one of the highest levels of salt in their diet but usually number 1 or 2 in life expectancy.Probably due to their genetic make up.

So know your family history.Sometimes salt isn't the evil it is made out to be.
Though in practice I mainly treated Heart failure. All those patients were told to reduce salt intake.

Staff were amazing and so involved in what they were doing. Didn’t take photos of all the food - we did matching wines which we don’t normally do, so I lost the plot after the first glass :)

Oh, the agony! I popped over the road to see my shackie neighbours, who have come up for the weekend. He was on the deck, cleaning the haul of scallops just caught locally. Nice, big, very plump and fresh scallops <drool !!> straight off the seabed.

Had to sit there, chatting while he fixed up those beauties :(.

(None offered, none expected and would not have accepted anyway - you just don't do that with fresh caught scallops!)

Agree. But we are talking dogs here. Lots of things humans can eat but animals and dogs handle quite differently. Onions, garlic, chocolate, fats, salt, raisins and grapes for example.

But did he know that you were not angling for a freebie?

My eldest daughter wanted to become a vet. She loves animals. But we got her to do a course with the local uni (whilst in Colombia) that is effectively "work experience". Although the course was fantastic, with exposure to so much of animals, from pets to cattle, she came out realizing she loved animals, but being a vet was not roses. This is a hard sector. People who had sick pets that could not afford the treatment, etc.

I have tremendous respect for my Vet and Vet staff. I could never do their job. They are animal lovers but most days, they are the ones who have to ‘cause’ pet owners pain. My vet nurse is a friend and the day I said goodbye to my kitty, she sobbed with me. That they feel is what makes them so genuine.

But that is perhaps too why the suicide rates in the Vet profession are some of the highest.
