Bazza needed a tiny rescue today. We anchored in a channel with deceptive currents. Of course it was easy to swim out. When a swimmer changes their stroke they are tiring. One guy with flippers stayed in the water until he eventually made it to that swimmer then gave him a life bouy and the line brought in.

Just came across the German Australian Genealogical and History Alliance. An actual group, with the acronym of GAGHA of course :)

The hand bag says a lot about this situation... apparently.

And Lizzie is starting to look very frail. Im not a fan of the royal family but she was always a mighty figure and shes shrinking. I was surprise to read she was in her 90s!

What bothers you about the (British) royal family Vs say other royal families?

Other royal families are not on my radar at all. They don't 'bother' me but I think there is no reason for us to bow to a line that's not relevant to our country. We are an independent nation. We don't need a foreign head of state, we don't need visits from randoms that wave and dine with politicians and then toddle off again, until next time.

I would argue that they are relevant to our country, history proves this fact. However as to whether or not Australia should be a republic is IMHO a seperate issue, and even as a royalist, I think Australia probably should be a republic.
much of the appeal of Australia to migrants is the history of stability in government which we inherited from the UK , I find it ironic that many people move to a new country, (like this one) only to want to change the very things which make it appealing in the first place.

Yes but they as they operate a hospital and medical clinic, admin and wages are part of the necessary costs.

Any charity with zero overheads are kidding themselves and others

I donate to an orphanage in Nepal through the owner who lives and runs a business here locally. The staff who run the orphanage are of course paid through our donations. There have been hiccups with local corruption, but I have made a commitment to put at least one child through their entire living and schooling. Once my current lad finishes school I will sponsor another.

.....Lunch was oysters - eaten straight off the rocks.

Oh you take me back to my childhood. We used to eat them straight off the rocks as well.

What about the 69800 years of our nation before the invasion by the poms?

Why should “us” taxpayers pay for German/Greek (American) “ royalty” to come here at our expense and ponce about while our politicians forelock tug?
