We're doing a weekend away at an Airbnb with some friends and EVERYONE has brought their slippers.
I mean, it's cold up here (going be 0° tonight), but it's like, damn, we're in our 30s, and we've all brought our slippers on holiday.
Ha - zero overnight is nothing, sheer luxury in fact. I have possum fur slippers though they are nearly worn out. MrLtL bought them in Queenstown NZ for me a few years ago. :p

Why should “us” taxpayers pay for inbread German/Greek (American) “ royalty” to come here at our expense and ponce about while our politicians forelock tug?

I dunno about you, but for me the alternative seems worse? Another political election for a president? Or will we let the incumbent government of the day choose the President? What powers will they have? Will they be impartial?

No doubt the cost of an election for a preisdent, if we go down that route, could be almost as expensive as the occasional visit by the royals here?

If it ain't broke, why fix it?

I don’t agree that a head of state should also be be in the executive branch.

Giving a politician the head of state and also head of executive concentrates too much power. They can’t cope, their heads will swell too much

Head of state should be ceremonial

True story. Our family was thrown out and barred from Sizzler for going the 'wrong way around' the buffet.
Haha!!. Sizzler was not bad. Unfortunately it discovered that the same menu all the time does not work

I’ve been to one non lounge buffet this year on the way home from Wagga. Did a detour off M7 and ended up at the Seven Hills Toongabbie RSL buffet. Not bad.
Lots of obese people there with massive plates of food.
They have several stations. Lots of people and a queue to get a table

No <peoples unused to western custom> that I could see

That’s different to the Crown paying its own way for holidays and jaunts. When our PM goes to London we pay, not them.

Obviously the solution is an Australian head of state. That's why I favour making Princess Mary our Queen, but she stays in Denmark. :)

If we had the Head of State in Australia, the pollies etc would be tugging their forelock ALL the time, and we would bear ALL the upkeep costs. Best to keep 'em a flight's distance.

If we really believe in diversity shouldn't it be the Duchess of Sussex as our Head Of State.

Hot here in Berlin, low thirties, I think it's well above average for this time of the year, I was in a large electrical/electronics shop yesterday and lot's of people were buying desktop fans. Hotel doesn't have any cooling.
I think it's one of those former East Berlin apartment blocks that has been turned into a hotel, large room, good view of the tower and an abandoned building next door which was the "Haus der Statistik", guess next time I return it will have been demolished and a modern multistory building will be there instead.

This old chestnut comes up from time to time.
The fact is we are well served by the current system, and it is a lot less costly than the alternative, in spite of what the naysayers will have you believe.
