The totally off-topic thread

So Ozthongs sent me another spam email rather than unsubscribing me.

Maybe they actually read my last email to them (but did not reply) as this email now has an unsubscribe facility. Have now tried to use it rather reporting them again and will see what comes of it.

Speaking of spam I've starting getting email from "dealboard". I don't remember signing up for anything, and I have no idea who they are. Anyone know what it is?

Oh and I don't use the unsubscribe feature, I just report them straight off if I can be bothered. Otherwise, permanent delete without reading.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

On of the many daily special offer groups out there

Also, anyone got any good ideas for using the $30 westfield vouchers from the AMEX promo?

I have 2 of them but wanted to spend them on daily 'needs' rather than just buying something.

Can you pay your bill at an optus store with the cards?

Register your email address at Cellarmasters, then at westfield.com.au, then access the cellamasters deals via Westfield and you will get both EDR and Velocity points.

Very impressed with Brisbane Holiday Inn,
I haven't stayed at a H.I since 2008 but I got a personally signed letter from the GM welcoming me,a bottle of red and chocolates on arrival.
a very nice touch and the room is lovely, great value for money too-$770 for 7 nights is pretty good in my book.
Cheers

I Started getting their spam emails about 12 months ago. Maybe they bought, or found, a bunch of email addresses. For several months all they were advertising was dealboard. The spamming appeared to work.

Thers's a thread on whirlpool that discusses them briefly (before they get all catty with one another)
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1834756

Continuing the :cool:ace:cool: detective work:rolleyes:, I looked them up in the white pages. The name bobbed up halfway thru typing it in, obviously a lot of people want to know who they are. They have a phone number and an address in the world trade centre in Sydney.

Cheers skip.

It's a bit of an awkwardly placed property IMO, and despite being in need of a refurbishment the rooms are ok.

I agree that the rooms could possibly do with a freshen up but overall I think it's a good property,I have certainly stayed at worse hotels-and paid more.

I don't know if it is certain staff, or the length of stay - but I have heard of people being offered "White or Red" wine when arriving. This can morph into 3 or 4 Crowne Lagers instead if you're not a wine drinker.

I think its well placed being on top of the railway and busways and close to the shopping in terms of a walk, and the rooms are being refurbished at present.

Agree it's a strange location, although it has great access to the airport (via Airtrain), and is close to the court district. Mall is a short walk. They actually commenced a refurb about 12 months ago. Lobby was first, and they have started on the rooms. No idea what floor they are up to.

Hotel (as part of the whole transit centre) is up for sale at the moment, probably won't retain HI brand. They haven't met the "new" HI Branding regulations, (Eg look at the old sign on the roof), and I think they would need to finish their refurb (at the least) to get the new branding.

Agree rooms are ok. The crazed windows are a bit strange, and the drapes a bit weird, but overall the rooms have stood up well with their dated decor.

I can't find much to complain about tbh ,comfortable bed with choice of soft or firm pillows, large tv,plenty of desk space, reasonable bathroom, good lighting, plenty of wardrobe space, all in all not much wrong with it.

Would feel a bit weird to have the nearest HI become one in SYD!

I wonder if this means you got a refurbished room (i.e. at the least with new furniture). In the old rooms, the bed was a little hard, pillows not too plump and desk was rather small-ish.

It's not a bad property and the staff are usually very pleasant to deal with. At an average of $110 per night, I'd say you definitely got it at a steal. (And if you were savvy enough to find some PC points deals to slap on top, I think you'll be very happy at check-out).

Isn't there a Holiday Inn on the Gold Coast?

Still, I wouldn't be impressed to be in Brisbane and there isn't a single Priority Club property in the city within a 10 km radius!

You have to wonder the logic sometimes of the large chains and their strategy for establishing properties in cities (or lack thereof). That HI easily fills occupancy numbers (with an ironic twist that it is also the last HI in the world to be updated to the new standards). The only "good" out of selling it out of the chain would be the high price obtained for it, plus continued decent occupancy due to its location and necessity (some drop off is expected due to loss of the PC brand). I suppose the managers of the property might be sick of it and just throwing in the towel, so brand change to them is a matter of little importance.

It would be an almost severe waste of money by HI/IHG to upgrade the property if it is sold out of the brand (the money spent to upgrade the property is not even small change used to butter it up before a sale).

Weird? No, sad. Very sad IMHO. Almost feels like the Sheraton issue where they lost their hotels in Australia.

Perhaps the brand will find another hotel in Brisbane, perhaps not. Perhaps the new owners will retain the HI rights, perhaps not.

Brisbane desperately needs a few more 3-4 * hotels commissioned.
