It's a bit of an art form these competitions ...

And getting harder to win due to the unpredictability in the posting rate. I don't mind being the caretaker of the competitions but my main concern is the level of member participation and whether people tire of them quickly. It is not much fun when there are only 5-6 guesses in a contest.

Also keep in mind that 10,000 posts takes around 2-3 months to achieve so it does not clutter up the Playground, or AFF, too much.

It is a pretty commonly used phrase on FT.

I personally find this phrase somewhat vulgar and unpleasant:shock:....you won't find me using it, and I certainly stop reading any post as soon as I see it used. No matter what we think of our fellow human beings, describing them as "lice" is pretty condescending.

Yeah, I made my prediction for the current one based on the posting rate 26NOV-17JUL, then went 2 days earlier.

And I was still 3 days too late!

It was a bit of a problem in the early days when there were also a multitude of competition about when particular people would make the x,000th post, and this may have led to some of the attition that happened in the number of people guessing.

Maybe 10,000 is a bit too frequent, after all 110,000 doesn't have the same quality about it as the original 10,000 did. Maybe every 20-25,000.

I would happily go along with every 20 - 25,000, or some other important occasion. All the multiple comps of the past had a place BUT I believe we are beyond that now.

Not really, my AFF 'lifetime' rate is under 5 per day.

My posting rate for the last 9 days is under 8 per day!

When I get back to the forum I constantly find I have 50+ new posts to trawl through. I catch up then it all starts again. I always seem to miss the crazy posting days which is bad at the time BUT probably good overall as I don't need to go to each topic multiple times.

Only 48 to go at the moment :!:

Really disappointing! It is a shame that this trip report had to be closed!

Flaming should not be tolerated in the trip reports section. It is hard enough to get trip reports posted without negative comments.

And yes my trip reports are not that exciting but at least I have tried....

Agreed - I enjoyed it, and actually cringed when I read the non-supportive comment about it... I have not written one as mine are all domestic, but I guess there are some quirks I could write about... wouldn't fancy it been bagged out though.
