Damn! Horrible timing indeed.

Sorry to hear of the news.

When my late godfather was in hospital, we had quite a few people using Skype to call in. May be an idea, though I know definitely not the best one.

I've already spoken to my father this morning, but mum wasn't up to talking (I'll e-mail you).

In a fight with a Stanley knife..... The knife will always win!

Especially after you've just changed the blades 10 minutes earlier!

Flashware, if you feel you must come home, then do it. You may never forgive yourself not seeing them before they go. Yes, you and your employer (and project group) will be well aware of the impact that will have on your project

I want some of the happy pills the manager of QT Gold Coast is on. Her responses to TripAdvisor reviews is ... well ... interesting : QT Gold Coast Hotel (Surfers Paradise) - 262 Hotel Reviews & 134 Photos - TripAdvisor

I've stayed there twice (and going for a 3rd time soon). If they weren't part of the Rydges group, I'd be pretty meh about the hotel overall.

Must be related to Andrew in DRW, his responses are odd

Great hotel if your spending much time in it - response, what else did you see!

What good timing, NOT, at least you know the blade was sharp, I had a small problem with a knife a 2 weeks ago, the pain wasn't really the problem it was the amount of blood everywhere and then the hassle of having to go and get patched up.

Now that I've had 15 minutes to wake up, my brain is in action. I've just realised/remembered that the British Home Office has my passport and getting it back, in emergency requirements will be 5 working days at the absolute quickest. What cough timing, especially as said person is not going to pull through.

I guess it is worth while to check on the passport situation, maybe you can't get back but at least you looked into it, especially in case you may decide to travel back to Australia soon anyway.

It would be good to get back but if you have said everything you wanted to say to this person and told them they may never get to see them again, at least that way you haven't left anything unsaid.

I'm with everyone else - get the passport back ASAP and head home. The time awaiting passport retreival can be used to prepare the project for your 72hr abscence.

Yeah I agree. The vast majority of people understand when personal issues come into play and do all they can to assist. This does include taking up work slack.

Making my favourite risotto ... I like this better than the ones at Euro last weekend, I'm afraid. ;)

That's the problem though, others aren't pulling their weight so I've taken on additional deliverables.. so can't see others picking up my base work, let alone the additional I'm doing :(

Anyway, moot point I think. Bank holiday here tomorrow, so earliest I could request it back would be Tuesday, then at quickest I've have it Monday week and by then it would be too late anyway... I'm told she is responding to voice and hand touch, so best I can do is a phonecall. For the funeral I will just have to be there in spirit.

Is there no way to travel on a temporary document (talk to Aust Embassy?)

Work will still be there when you get back......

My grandfather died when the rest of my family were in Portugul and couldnt get back. I had the "easy" drive from Broken Hill --> ADL then fly to MEL, overnight, the fly to SYD, then funeral, then back to ADL, then drive to Broken Hill. Didnt get to Broken Hill that night after I missed a roo at about 80kph at about midnight so gave up and pulled over. Decided work would still be there in the morning.....

Best wishes with whatever you decide - it's difficult being so far away.

This might be way out of order however, for a situation like this, who cares! IIRC one of our fellow members holds a senior position with DFAT.

FWIW, do whatever needs to be done!

SWMBO is a little under the weather at the moment as well, and with the recent issues (Feb) she had I've decided to stay here.
