For those two, you'd have better luck being a Catholic - at least to become their final rather than first husband. ;)

;) Indeed. Scientology ain't going to help me. Then again it ain't going to hinder me either.

Scientology is great if you need auditing of your character or of your finances!
I had a scientogy student escape before he was totally impoverished so I presume he was lucky.
The Orange People had a higher speed pocket vacuum cleaner thirty years ago.

Little water cooler chat with my colleague today, just back from a trip:
Me: "How was your trip?"
Colleague: "Great, didn't get that F upgrade you advised me to request though"
Me: "Ah well there's always next time"
Colleague: "It all worked out OK though as I used the points to get an iPad instead"
Me : stunned silence
You can lead a horse to water :D

...but at the end of the trip he has an iPad; what would he have at the end of the trip if he used the points to upgrade to F?

Your own perceived value is exactly what something is worth.

Only you can make that choice.

What should have happened is Princess Fiona should have had a new long lost relative who would have gifted her the points, and then purchased an Ipad via American Express to get those extra points.

Finally got to Singapore about 18 hours late. Well done to QF ground crew at lhr...did well in a tough situation with pax being rude etc. somewhat enjoyed the DYKWIA behind me who was anything but thankful for the upgrade to y+...my armrest briefly became his footrest, but he got the hint before I had to give him some advice...

The opup was most curious, will post a thread when I get home. Y+ is a VERY impressive product...although the reconfig wont do it any favours I guess

As for getting home, well qf78 overbooked so we volunteered for a night in Singapore and us$400 each. Works out well for us, as we get out relaxing last night of the holiday back which evaporated with qf2 in London.

I'm frequently on 78, and wouldn't mind another night there sometimes. How did you volunteer to be left in Singapore?

Told at check in at Singapore that they were seeking volunteers as they had 5 too many. Volunteered us then and there. I think we were the only two left behind - I had a word to the manager and just said that we were on the delayed qf2 and were very tired so if we could be put at the bottom of the standby list it would be appreciated. All worked out well, the traders is a nice place too.

I think you did well - accommodation and cash in hand (assumed) - better than what the "savvy" ones in the USA try to position themselves for during overbooking. It's good you have time on your hands to be in a position to do so.

The return westward from Europe always hurts the body more than going the other way IMO. Notwithstanding a bad choice of connections to PER, the Eastern seaboard probably has it worse, especially if SYD or MEL is not your final destination.

I'm almost too scared to ask how many ff points an iPad cost. Even if the colleague didn't get the f upgrade this time they could use points to buy a JASA or a FASA for their next trip which is a sure thing so no upgrade lottery required.

Brace yourself...

The most expensive J to F upgrade costs 60k points per pax (zone 10, which is SYD-LHR).

The cheapest iPad from the QFF store reduced to minimum points possible uses 53.7k points and $275 co-pay. At all points, the cheapest would be 89,500 points. The more expensive iPads range from 125.5k - 148k points at all points cost.

Correct me if I am wrong but you could not get a very good tax deduction if any if you use points or you use co payment.
