Ooh Turbo Pascal. Now that is a blast from the past. The other languages I had to learn were c, c++, modula 2, Java and I think some strange decision tree based one called symbol or something. The joys of it degrees.

Editing to add I had to also do some programming in asm. Aah such great memories that were repressed but now are bounding back....

And yes I mostly understood that post. Presume you are doing a translation of a database or piece of software. Sounds like fun...

120k+ rows in Excel (extracted from an Oracle DB) wrangled into 66,164 English-Chinese translation units!

Now to make Notepad++ run a macro through 85k lines of XML and process the resulting ~40k lines against two translation memories.

Not that I expectto make sense to anyone ....
Sadly, that all made perfect sense to me.

Apparently it's International Bacon Day, not something I suspect will spread to the Middle East or some of our Asian neighbours.
Do we need to revisit the whole facon/turkey bacon conversation again. (Please don't, that stuff is still repeating on me).

In Oz, today is "Wattle Day"!
Hope they never made you to do the Wattle Dance serfty (Fast forward to 1:05):

Just copped a heap of SWMBO's spit on my fingers. Apparently, when you're pumping up a bike tire and you take the pump thingy off the valve spit "will stop it". Here I was all these years thinking the valve is what stopped it.

I think something bad is about to happen.

I found a 5c piece on Friday
I found a battered 10c piece on Friday night
I found a 20c piece cut up with jagged edges (caused by mower) on 16th fairway yesterday
I found a folded $10 note at SYD T3 today as I walked inside near check-in kiosks (and flight was delayed 30 minutes to boot ;))
I found a $2 coin just outside the Go-card machines after I had touched off at Central

My father would probably tell you, "Go buy a lotto ticket."

I know definitely something bad is going to happen.

Usually that sequence of events would eventuate in the loss of money. Hoping that is all that happens and the loss is not too big....

FORTRAN was my "milk" language.

COBOL the major factor in my first 10 years of programming.

These days I keep my end in with the occasional bit of Java or .Pl .

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

In the case of a lotto ticket, it eventuates in a loss of money - i.e. the cost of the ticket. May as well hedge your bets now before life throws a bigger loss your way. :)

Sitting on my balcony with an Epiqure wine watching the folks tune up for city of lights for the Brisbane festival, pretty cool stuff.

How good is Expert Flyer ??
I just managed to snag row 1 on the Skybeds to PER later this week :D
I dutifully logged onto QF at T-80 this am to no avail, seat alert notification arrived 10 minutes ago, logged on to QF and changed to 1A

( and a little on topic  )

I'll think of you when I'm heading back to MEL, from PER tomorrow. I'll be on a shiny new DJ A330 in J.

Be careful what you have on iTunes !
At bedtime tonight my two youngest treated me to their version of Come Fly With Me. Miss 7 did an impression of Precious, and Miss 9 did Tommy the aspiring pilot.
Tears still rolling down my cheeks :D
Apparently tomorrow night we'll be hearing from Simon and Jackie and Peter and Judith, I'm hoping it's the cleaned up versions

You always look on the bright side of things don't you.

All it is telling me is that you are a very keen watcher for loose money.

I actually found $20 when I was walking to work last week, I do a lot of walking.

Don't I know it! I now have a 7yo who wanders the house singing "A Bushel and a Peck" and "Marry The Man Today" from the musical Guys and Dolls. An evening in ed with my iPad reminded her of being in the stage show earlier in the year and now we have to re-live the songs. Better have her watch "Sound of Music" again ...

80,750 kris miles to go SYD-SIN-LHR on SQ A380 in November in J class is a pretty sweet SAVER redemption. I went click and click for my son.

Want to adopt me? Presumably that is one way...what were the taxes /surcharges like?

Just logged into my QF account and noted my balance dropped by 56000 points. Which means my J upgrade SIN-FRA on QF5 tomorrow has come through! Hoorah!
