It feels saccharine writing this post, but here goes.

Some of you may remember that I had a bit of a health scare in recent years.

It's funny with your health - you tend to get a single moment when things go 'bad' (e.g. you collapse in a work meeting... or for some people it is a test result, or are diagnosed with XYZ). Recovery is rarely so clear cut, or constrained to a single moment in time. Recovery is a slow, gradual, and often painful period as your body slowly repairs itself and you get better, usually with a little help from our good friends in the medical professional.

Fortunately I have reached the point where I can say that I am "better". I tend to be a fairly private person when it comes to these things, but I am really very happy to share that I don't have the C word (which was a big fear for a period, and a rumour at work). My organs are in reasonable health (including liver & kidneys, which may surprise some ), and I don't have any other diseases or nasties.

I am still overweight and unfit, but it is a truly great feeling to know that there is nothing medically wrong with me.


This period has been a good wakeup call for me to take better care of myself. I am slowly accepting the fact that I am not 25 any more, and unfortunately never will be 25 again. As such, pushing my body to work huge hours, stay up for extended periods, and drink my bodyweight in alcohol probably isn't the best thing to do.

I spoke quite a bit to my various doctors and specialists about my travel and they weren't too worried about it. Their main advice is to drink plenty of water and juice on the flights, get up and walk about the cabin, and make sure I schedule adequate rest time into my trips (especially work trips). I think this advice is fairly transferable to everyone.

That's what we will be doing anyway! I can't see MrP retiring ever as he keeps on writing stuff. And that is one of the main benefits of the TR things.
