So glad we went to Melrose Abbey. It's something I could look at multiple times, in different lights.

My Scottish regret is 3 weeks just isn't enough time. I would like to see more of the Scottish Borders, Aberdeenshire ect.

Formals are excruciatingly tedious.
Most of the dresses look awful and many go over the top. The food has never been good
Oh I love the dresses - how often do girls get to wear long dresses these days - two formals and their wedding is about it! No idea about the food.....

It's the social pressure BS that comes with formal that's nuts. The dress, hair, date then the $$$ on "the arrival" rubbish.

Most venues advertising for formals business would not make it into any restaurant guide.

Less money on dresses, hair, makeup more on the food and wine. The boys got it right - hire a suit, quick brush of hair and out the door. But then one could say the same about J/F travel - less on the getting there and more at the destination

You are seeing it from the grumpy adult point of view. The girls love it :). I agree it can get too stressful, but then the parents should be setting limits. I was happy with the dress and hair, but no way they were getting make up and nails done - that’s for weddings :) Ms FM and her friends didn’t even have a fancy transport. They elected to walk in carrying a cardboard cut out of Capt Jack Sparrow. (Don’t ask - there was a reason).

As far as JF travel - I believe it’s about getting there AND the destination, so we aren’t going to agree on that either. :)

I bought one for Mrscove and she rarely uses it. That Dyson product must carry a very high gross profit margin.
