The old dial up modem noises brings back the days of yesteryear,

Our children will never remember them

2 weeks ago I would have agreed with you, however I just can't agree with that now. I feel so enlightened and empowered and I really hope that one day you find that peace too.
Glad to hear that all is OK.

Sugar coating reality does not make it better. And just because someone is not an eternal optimist does not mean they cannot be at peace.

I like to consider myself reasonably aware of things going on in the world at large, so it was with some dismay that I discovered the apparently solely American use of "I could care less" as an alternative to "I couldn't care less" (but intended to mean the same thing) has been in use since the 1960s. I have only seen this in fairly recent times, probably on FT. Seems it came into US conversation as a sarcastic term, more in spoken than written form, but has been adopted quite widely now in written form also. I think it is totally illogical and complete bollocks, particularly the defence of it by some due to its alleged sarcastic origins.

John Cleese and a chap named David Mitchell sum it up quite well.

ahhh yes, that wonderful sound that meant you would soon be 'connected'

When I woke up yesterday I was destined to make a trip to Europe in Y at the end of February. :(

By lunchtime yesterday the trip was off.

This morning the trip is on again and fixed. :(

"Doth fortune play the hussy with me now?" Too bloody right she does!

....and another thing I now have to go to The Gold Coast for a day next week.
