My experiences with Startrack and Toll mirror those reported.

At home all day, no knock, no doorbell. Card left in mailbox.

I was so furious the last time (Toll) I rang them and demanded the driver return and deliver properly. When I pointed out i'd been home all day and that a card had been left in the mailbox, they contacted the driver and made him return.

We obviously have very conscientious delivery people and posties here.Always delivered to door except when we are away-we try not to have that happen.

My mum just sent me a message saying that the de-icing fluid at ORD froze because it's so cold...

Same for us in TSV - a really cheerful conscientious young fellow delivers to us - it's a home-office so several times a week usually. Like the old days with the garbos, we have been getting something for him for Christmas for the last couple of years...:)

Can someone in Brisbane assist with a query regarding Primrose Street Bowen Hills? I haven't seen any of the places but it would appear to be lodge type accommodation. I believe all units have ensuites and own kitchen but common living rooms.

Very close to the RNA showgrounds; I'm not familiar with the street. Looking at Google Maps street views, looks like all new(-ish) apartment buildings. With common living rooms, it may be set up for people like you commuting to BNE to work, or even international students??? But I'm just guessing ...

Have to admit I'm really looking forward to our flight to Miami tomorrow.

Montreal is fantastic however, the -30C conditions can wear you down........walking the streets today was just plain dangerous!

The ice is everywhere and bloody atrocious......

Sounds like - Skyline Court Apartments - Basic but OK ....checkout tripadvisor reviews etc . .......bit out of the way unless you need to be in the Bowen Hill / Royal Brisbane Hospital area ......

That's gotta be really cold (or wherever the de-icing fluid is stored). The melting point of de-icing fluid is, not surprisingly, very low; e.g. propylene glycol has a nominal melting point of -59 degC. Even when mixed with water to improve application and decrease viscosity for spraying, it still maintains a melting temperature around that.

Of course, there are many other factors which could affect this and freeze it anyway, but anyway it would still have to be really cold.

At hilton bora bora just came back from dinner on the main island and it appears the main mountain is either on fire of has lava flowing down the side...let's hope it's a fire!

International students or even local students could be a problem.

I dont care about common living room as all I need is the bedroom with ensuite and kitchenette. They also include 2 GB wi-fi per month which can come in handy. Rents are ~$240-$290/week and include electricity.

So far so good. The biggest problem is they are not that close to Fortitude Valley and for me would require a bus/train in the morning to get to work and a train/bus in the evenings to return from work. Compare that with ~15 minutes door to door at the moment.

Still worth a thought.

Probably a ten minute walk either way to the vallley or bowen hills.

A 10 minute walk would not be too much of an issue during the day. It is the late evenings on Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesdays that worry me. Also the luggage to/from airport would be an issue as well.

I am just trying to get a feel for the area. There are no viewing times scheduled and when they do have them they are on weekends wich are not suitable to me.

I not that long ago had a 12 kg cycle trainer delivered from store in Dublin to Adelaide, left via DHL on a Thursday, was DELIVERED on the Sunday. Cost? $0.00.

About the same time I used AusPost to send a birthday present airmail to Portugal, ~$70 for 200g with tracking and proof of delivery etc. Took 2 weeks to get to Lisbon.

Cost to you $0... But be interesting to see what DHL Dublin charged the shipper.

One of the reasons Aus Post is expensive for parcels is that they need to recover the cost of domestic letters (price controlled by govt) and international incoming parcels (governed by Intl treaties) is not enough to cover the higher employee costs and distance ineffeciencies in Australia.

Is almost a hidden subsidy from domestic individual and stores to foreigners.

G'day, everyone!

Still here in Vegas until Wednesday afternoon local time.

New Media Expo is over & it was a great time.

I'll add to my trip report but every time I've come to the AFF over the last couple of days, the app crashes on both the iPhone (iOS7.x) & iPad (iOS6.x). It gets to a topic & then crash. I'm now on the website on my phone.

For the first time since arriving in Vegas, I've woken up to clouds in the sky. It's as if someone knows a little ray of sunshine is flying home. But it's true, she is...

Wandering around Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur this week I had this thought bubble wondering what would happen if every "smart device" in the world stopped functioning at once.

It is my understanding that Aust Post lose money on every international parcel that arrives. But as you say the International Treaties.....

People seem to forget the size of Australia and the relatively tiny population which all has a bearing on cost structures.

Heck we would have to use our minds if all our devices failed. It would be a film setting loosely based around an adult version of Lord Of The Flies.

Some people would be in trouble.
