The ULTIMATE Qantas Guide

Had lots of time on my hand that day;). Now I'm not even sure if the whole of the QFF website is still mapped in my links, but it's just too hard now to find the block of time necessary to run a cross check.

Question to the Suits on the Friday homebound leg:
You are a Qantas Club Member (Life member)
You are of the Lowly BRONZE status (flying with other airlines for past few years)
You book an International Flight with Qantas (Down the back in Economy)
Question: As a Qantas Club Member do you have to pay $20 to select a seat?
and is this $20 to be paid for each sector?

Remember : You are a Qantas Club member (fully paid up)
Your Staus is BRONZE (not silver or above)

Answer: is YES

It is all in the fine print (try and locate the answer on the Qantas www site). For those of us at the bottom end of the status ladder it is no wonder why we are deserting Qantas and chosing other full service carriers.
Enjoy the flight home.

Updated post # 4 to add link suggested by QF10

To quote their web site:

Airlineatlas is your guide to long haul airline services from the worlds leading airlines. Airlineatlas compares the services offered by airlines for long haul flights of 6 hours or longer. On one page you will be able to compare the basic product offered to passengers. Find out the aircraft type each major airline uses from the worlds busiest airports. See which cities have direct connections. Surprise yourself with information on leg room and consistency of product across an airline fleet; and for the passengers who only like new toys, see the average age for the long haul fleets.

Forgive me if this has been asked & answered many times before - I've searched for the answer and have not come up with a definitive answer that I can find anyway.

Due to some fantastic advice I've received from fellow AFF & FT members I want to subscribe to an industry tool so that I can finally enhance my award re-deemptions.

So far I've notice that two names keep popping up EXPERTFLYER & KVS - is one better than the other or both should be joined to max the benefits or another option that I've not yet learnt about?

I'm exclusively a QF or OW flyer that uses awards for annual family holidays in either F or J - so that means that in most cases I'm on the lookout for up to 5 tickets. Once a year my wife & I will sneak off to SIN,BKK,HKG for a long weekend without the kids.

So the airlines that I want to cover are QF,BA,CX,KA & I suppose all other OW partners.

Thanks for reading & any advice you can give me.

Cheers
Cameron

I dabbled in both from the beginning.

KVS is more technical to use (which I prefer) and is generally faster; however they both produce similar results.

In the end, for me the portability of ExpertFlyer (Web browser based) gave it the nod over KVS (Client Based).

I subscribe annually US$99 - AFF Gold membership provides a 15% discount on that.

For a little more, see these interesting FlyerTalk threads:

Is that discount once off? or can it be used again to renew my Expert Flyer membership?

It's a single use code ... Every year, gold members need to PM admin/support before their renewal is due to request a one-off "coupon" code.

You then insert the coupon code into your E/F profile (Account Page, "Subscription" Tab) and it will automatically be applied at renewal time.

Damn. I thought it was once off. My Annual renewal just got processed too last month :(

Can one access the Qantas Club in Darwin if on an Airnorth flight (TL coded)?

Cheers.

All very good info. Quite a few of the links look like they need updating though.

Guys please bear with me for my lack of QF knowledge but just need to clarify a couple of pts.

Am looking at heading to Europe in June 2015 via Dubai so we can stop over at the Burj. I have plenty QF pts for 2 x F o/w if can be secured:

1. O/w pts reqd QF F MEL-LHR/CDG is 192K?
2. Are stopovers permitted on o/w redemptions? Extra cost involved?
3. QF metal to Dubai only or right through?
4. Is QF best alternative to Europe using QF pts and getting a stopover in Dubai?

Thanks in advance and again apologies for the newbie questions.

This does not answer all your questions Cruise Elite, however:

I prefer to fly to Europe on QF in F as I (still) try to support Qantas and I like the A380 First Class. Qantas First checkin and lounge are excellent.
My prior research suggested this was the best value if flying in First as 1.5 points earn per $1 spent using Amex, resulted in a true cost of a First return flight to London from Melbourne of $3500 - $4000.
QF 9 is Qantas metal all the way to LHR, then BA to CDG (Business).
Your other option, which I have used less frequently is QF 9 to Dubai, then Emirates metal to CDG. The reason I used this less often is that it did not earn status all the way if using MASA, but after June 30 no status will be available on classic type awards.
I never had a stopover in Dubai, so can't help you with that one.
