Cool.Hi - thanks for replying. It is solely to get credits for a status run.
As you'd like to get to VA Gold, you'd need 500SC and 4 eligible flights with VA in the 365 day period. With the DSC promo currently on, depending on where you are based, you can take a one stop business class flight and get at least 220SC (normal 110SC) out of that trip. Repeat the same trip once again and add another business leg somewhere you'd get to Gold
From there on, you'd need another 500SC more in the same year and 4 more eligible flights (8 in total) with VA to get to Platinum.
Criteria for eligible VA flights - is any flight that is operated by VA on VA flight number.
To get better fares try and find mid-week flights and explore a variety of destinations - HBA/LST, OOL, ADL etc. I usually take CBR-MEL-ADL in J and return for 440SC. However, don't do CBR-SYD or SYD-CBR as those routes are operated by Saab340 and they don't have business class seats. You do get business class status credits and points, but you won't be sitting in a business class seat.
Where possible (read : always) don't fly direct. Always connect to get more status credits, points & eligible flights. Our motto in AFF is "why fly direct, when you can connect"
Any more queries, please feel free to reach out.
Alternatively, if you are flying solely for the purpose of accruing status and don't fly regularly (or on a semi-regular basis) - you may want to think about why you need to accrue status and how are you going to enjoying the benefits that status brings. Just food for thought, goes without saying, you are welcome to do what makes you happy
