The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Transferred some points from Membership rewards to Velocity yesterday, only to discover today when they were credited to my Velcoity account today that one of the 100SC points runs I was going to take has increased from 13,800 pts to 21,000 pts! I have noted in the comments section on spreadsheet. It has only changed in the last 2-3 days. Very annoying!

Noticed this also and goes to show not to delay in booking if you can.A fare I booked last month at 13800 is now 27800.Considering it is 3 sectors and earning 140 SC it did seem cheap at the time hence the reson for booking it.Although leaving at 9am to arrive at 4.30pm does seem a bit over the top considering I can drive it in 4 hours but atleast I will avoid the holiday traffic.

I changed A7 to the correct points in the points column and put the note in the comments section as stated above. Hope that's ok.

Is A8 same as A7 but with different pay portion? I couldn't find that $$ amount, so I left as is.

I just shot the request in for access to the "hallowed" spreadsheet...

If someone wishes to allow me to it, so be it.

I need to do some burning to keep plat lol

No worries. I wasn't sure what the protocol was, so I just left a note in the comments column.

Just added A58 to the list which is quite a good earner, although my partner won't let me do it lol

If its no longer a good deal can you hint as to the route? I assume something in Queensland?!

Thanks. Anything under 200 points per SC seems like a pretty good deal now given how the regular 138 PPSCs seem to be drying up!

I've been working to keep things clean and up-to-date in the spreadsheet, and would like to make some suggestions around protocol:

Adding New Fares:

  • Aim to be a contributor, and give - not just take. Look for new fares and add them - particularly if you know of QF/partner/YUPP status runs (these are big areas of improvement for the spreadsheet).
  • After adding a new fare, please sort the sheet by the Status Credit Yield. (You can do this by clicking the arrow over "Points/SC" or "$/SC", then click "Sort A-Z") This will ensure your fare appears in the right place.

Fare (Points or Cash Cost) Changes:

  • If you spot a fare change, make the update into the spreadsheet. (Leave a note in the notes column saying what the fare used to be.)
  • If you do change a fare, make sure the Status Credit Yield column is up to date and calculated correctly. The Status Credit Yield is either the points or cash cost, divided by the Status Credits earned. So if a fare costs $100 and earns 15 Status Credits, then the Status Credit Yield is $100 / 15 = $6.67. If the same fare costs 6900 points, 6900 / 15 = 460.

Fares That Are No Longer Available:

  • If a fare is no longer available, Markis10 suggests you use Strikethrough temporarily so that others who are looking for the fare (and might not understand where to find it) can still see it easily. It's wise to check months ahead. Several people have reported fares were no longer available when they were, but on obscure dates. If you're unsure, leave a note in the "Notes" column and someone can check.
  • After the fare is well and truly dead (has been struck-through for days? weeks? no longer being talked about?) move it to the Archive sheet.

Change Management:

  • If you need to roll back bad changes, please make sure you're not undoing any "good" changes too.
  • If you're making significant changes to the spreadsheet (i.e. anything other than simply adding or editing fares), please leave a note in the Changelog sheet.
  • There are a LOT of columns that use calculated fields and conditional formatting. Be careful when importing/pasting data, or rolling back, that you don't kill these. Every time you muck up the spreadsheet, God delays a flight.

Sorting:

  • If you're sorting or filtering columns to find fares from your city, or under a certain number of points, etc - please make sure you re-order it by Status Credit Yield when you're done. (Again, you can do this by clicking the arrow over "Points/SC" or "$/SC", then click "Sort A-Z")

Tips: Staying up-to-date with changes...

  • We had a suggestion earlier this week that we add a "Date Added" column, to make it easier to work out which fares are new. There's an easy way to do this already. Look at the "AFF Number" column (column A) for the highest numbered fare (e.g. "A58"). If you've seen this one before, then nothing new has been added.
  • If you want alerts about who is changing what, and when - you can receive notifications by clicking "Tools" > "Notification Rules". Then select the changes you want to be notified about. [Warning: You will get 100's of emails about this. Every minuscule change will result in a notification.] I'll see if I can come up with a better solution to be notified when fares are added or improved...
Have I missed anything here?

In general think the rules are great.

I don't think we should be in a rush to declare stuff as no longer available. As I have stated elsewhere I'm really not sure that in some of these cases that Virgin have "fixed" the problem (IT changes just don't happen that quickly) , rather we as a group have grabbed all currently available seats, where currently is the key word. Over the weeks I'd suggest for some of these that the airlines release more award seats some of these may magically appear again and we should allow a bit of time to see if this occurs.

May I suggest we add a section for insanely cheap fares between any city pairs? Not all amazing fares are status earning, there are plenty of amazing sale, mistake, or hidden city fares which result in amazing prices between two cities and I feel there is no point leaving out good deals.

Once the VA offer of SC on reward tickets ends some of the VA points runs would fit in to that category.

Anyone else agree?

There may not be too much to add to the QF columns. As their booking engine is fairly stable there is little chance of a mistake fare popping up. Status runs are freely discussed in this thread. There is also quite a bit of info on status runs on this thread.

I have added a couple of JASAs to the spreadsheet, but even these have been discussed publicly as well.

It is the Virgin cutover to Sabre that is providing the jam, and also requiring more stealth on our behalf!

Destination is inside NSW, just checked and they have dropped the points back to 21800 overnight.155 points per sc now, not as good as the original 98 points per sc but still better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick.
