The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Just wondering if someone can double check the maths for me...to avoid another #silvergate2014

each sector on saver lite gets 10 SC's....

I am currently SILVER
450 SC
4 eligible flights

so does the maths look ok??? I'm a librarian not an accountant.

Also each flight cost $175 so that's 875 base points plus 50% as silver = 1313?

Now does the Gold kick in after my 19 July PMQ-BNE LEG.....OR is it after I complete the entire journey ending in SYD on July 20???

And the most important question...when do I get my personalized luggage tag???

PS: thanks QF WP for the correct code...

Thanks to all the info supplied by members here I've been doing my last few runs ADL-BNE via MEL. (Great lounge!)

Noticed today I've made it to WP! Actually over a week ago, they have upgraded me, even though I'm only at 980 SC. I never received any email however like I did when they bumped me the last 30 SC to Gold & Silver etc.. Odd. Should one be forthcoming?

Overall I'm happy to have gone from Red to Platinum in 7 months on base fares.

Now the pursuit of SC to reach the quotas to stay there!

Thanks for all the reading and tricks guys & Girls!

Congrats on hitting WP :)

Did my status run SYD->OOL->MEL on the weekend, stayed the night, ate lots of good food, went to the coffee expo. I ended up getting the same flight attendant on both legs, who found it hilarious that I was flying around just to get points and gave us some free snacks from the menu. It was a great weekend all round! Visiting family in Brisbane this weekend which should see me tick over to platinum.

I flew the BNE-NTL-BNE turnaround with the same crew and 7 minutes in the terminal...that was a little embarrassing actually!

Good idea serfty! So reading the fine print at the bottom of the booking it says that both domestic legs will be booked as business which makes for a great earner of 240 status points by my calculations. Not bad at all and gets me to gold! With my international trip later in the year maybe platinum won't be too far off the cards if I play it right with all the tips I've learnt from this forum. Thanks guys!
Relooking at this. AKL to BNE is only 1427 miles according to the VA website so that's 45x 2 and 60 x 2 for domestic C so total of 210 however if you flew to CHC it is the same deal with same price just less sleeping hours and that is 1553 miles getting you your 240 SC.

BNE - CNS usually $255 flexi for 30 SC or $539 for J ... approx $8.50 / SC

Hi everyone, first time posting here but have been lurking for a while. This thread has a bunch of neat tricks, didn't realise connecting flights meant you got separate status credits.

I'm currently on 950 status credits, and by the 18th of May I'll be down to 920, but that weekend I'm flying from Sydney to Brisbane with my partner (who pools points to me) so we'll gain another 40 points bringing me up to 960, perilously close to making platinum. I was thinking about doing a run next weekend to get the 40 points (perhaps an overnight melbourne trip to drink coffee and eat Huxtaburger) however I've left it too late and now the flights are pretty expensive - will cost $550 for the overnight trip.

The next weekend I'm able to fly is on the 30th, however by that point I would have lost another 10 status credits putting me at 950 again. So I'll need to gain the extra 10 credits somehow. From reading this thread I took a look at webjet connecting flights, and I could head to Melbourne on a SYD-BRIS-MEL flight on the Saturday and return home direct MEL-SYD on Sunday night. This would cost $460 and I'd get 20 + 30 + 20 = 70 status credits (combined for the 2 of us) I also have virgin money credit card so I might be able to get the half price deal on one or both of the flights if I book this weekend. I assume you still get status credits when you do that?

$460 is still fairly pricey though, does anyone have any other suggestions? At the start of June I'll drop to 920 status points, and stay that way until July when I start losing a few overseas flights and it's probably game over. So if I earnt 80 points I could fly anytime in June.

I could do the OOL flights that have been mentioned, however I used to live in Brisbane and drove to GC regularly so we would probably find Melbourne a better night away.

So I have 3 SC runs in the next 6 weeks....

syd-ool-syd 20sc @ $9 sc (yep..not too good)

syd-pqq-bne-syd...I then turn GOLD!!!! 30 sc @ $5.30 SC

syd-pqq-bne.....ool-syd 30 sc @ $5.30 SC

exciting times......will then be GOLD before our USA trip in September.....Plat after we get home @ 1180

I decided today, after spending a few hours with family, that Christmas day will be spent doing a status run so I will be watching sales. SCs isn't the problem as I have two international flights on J coming up but I need a few sectors to maintain WP. Might fill my carry on with boxes of Lindt for the FAs.

Really? That's sad.
Not if you know our families and hubby agrees, we have been out of the country the last 4 Christmas. I haven't flown domestically in almost 5yrs so looking forward to it.

Thinking Syd>Melb>Adelaide>Melb>Syd unless I find something really cheap.

To make sure I don't get screwed in the small print, if I buy flexi fares and then use my complimentary upgrades - do I still get status credit and sector recognition on the original purchased fare? We dont fly domestic often so thinking of using the comps if possible. Thanks.

You are correct. It will credit at the orginally purchased fare ie. flexi

So to date the best bang for buck flights wise are ones flying in PY/C to NZ? or to OOL. Anyone know of any others for someone wanting to start from MEL?

hi there
i was fiddling around with webjet and saw some MEL-ADL-OOL-SYD-MEL in mid July (16th) for $306 (including booking fee)...that works out for
Mel-ADL 10SC, ADL-OOL 15 SC, OOL-SYD 10 SC, SYD-MEL 10 SC...TOTAL 45 SC @ $6.80 PER SC

I would also look at port macquarie atm, seems to be a winner...I am doing that this weekend.

Does anyone have a bit of a guide on how to get good value for SC?

I am in ADL and need to get 50 SC before July 12. Does anyone have any tips?

ADL-xMEL-HBA will net you 40 SC for around $290 RTN , then just do a ADL-MEL RTN for 20SC for around $160 - Saver Lite Fares
ADL-OOL will net you 60 SC for around $500 on a Flexi Fare
ADL-xBNE-MKY , will net you 50 SC for around $450-$500 RTN - Saver Lite Fares.. i did notice notice one routing ADL-xMEL-xSYD-MKY for $222 & 35 SC o/way on a few days before the 12th July .

Pricing above is based on using the Promo CODE - GLV25 to get a10% discount

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Do you know if rewards flights accrue status credits? As I understand it, using points to upgrade to business doesn't get me status..?
