The Velocity Status Run Master thread

With tonight's "Happy Hour" sale, What is the best way to earn Max SC and Miles for the cheapest routes from Cairns, Return?

Thanks <3

Hi all, another newbie here. Currently have Gold status thanks to an overseas trip last year but it expires in October. I need 240 status credits to keep it. I've got 30 credits up my sleeves thanks to an upcoming Air New Zealand flight, however at this point I'd be happy to drop to silver & pay for the lounge access. I think I need about 70 to make this target. Obviously I'd love to keep gold but can't see it happening.

I've been keeping my eye out for offers from Virgin, however the only one I've seen was the one for the credit card and I didn't have a card that qualified.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can do that without wasting too much cash? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, everyone, have been looking through the thread and see that it helps to be specific. I can travel most weekends apart from 5/6/7 September. Don't mind an overnight someone interesting. Sydney is the base.

Thanks again.

My understanding is that you will only drop to silver, even if you earn no status credits for the year (commonly called soft landing), so no need to worry about taking unnecessary flights just to retain silver. If lounge access is all you're really worried about, purchase just as you drop from gold (though as I've mentioned, you should only drop to silver, so you should be able to purchase lounge access at the discounted rate). Other more knowledgeable members will quickly correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks for the reply, AdMEL.

I wish I'd made more of an effort to keep Gold, to be honest. I really do love the priority boarding and waltzing into the lounge!

I picked up some cheapish J flights to Auckland, 120 SC in total per person so if you have someone that can pool to you, go to NZ for a weekend.

Welcome to AFF Chipper.
I think a run to NZ may be the best for you. PE saver R/T from SYD via MEL or BNE to of from CHC for about $1100. This should net you the 210 SCs needed at PE earn rate- plus 4 eligible VA sectors.
Downside- late into CHC (say, Sat night) and very early out (Sun morning). There is a thread about this run with plenty of advice . Cheers, PJ

I'm still spewin that earlier this year I did a MR MEL-ADL to "just" get me over the line for Gold... when as SOON as I booked it, I remembered that my upcoming international flights would be credited as MEL-SIN, SIN-LHR, rather than just MEL-LHR as one leg... Which meant I had well over the Gold threshold. Was pretty fun to lounge hop for the day though :)

Thanks, PJ. I'll keep my eye on the prices. I like the idea of a few internal flights too so I'm looking at fares, status credits and getting very cross eyed!

Whoops... Nothing wrong with flying for fun IMO (my friends may think I'm crazy however)
