The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Ah ok, I was always of the impression it was a one time only thing. Was always curious if it was given again if you dropped and then reattained, was just something I kept in back of my head just in case I don't retain IHG considering that after next month I will crediting everything to retain my *G as there is no real benefit of being VA WP over SG

So Virgin Frequent Flyer official rep posted here on AFF today right? So I assume VFF are now back active is that right?

VFF I have a query please - Saturday I made a booking 2 x J seats LAX-MEL later this year - at time of booking - and I had to do it over the phone because the defective Velocity/Virgin web site would not complete the booking - I selected my seats and completed booking.

I can now log into Velocity web site and bring up my booking but when I click 'Seats' it brings up this pop up:

Velocity.JPG

I call Velocity and am told seats cannot be changed online - REALLY? In my best John McEnroe impersonation 'You cannot be SERIOUS!'

A joke that VA's website is still so useless...

I have found it quite common for this situation to arise across a range of carriers - at least QF, VA and EY.
It seems when some types of changes are made manually by staff it renders the booking "untouchable" online.

we will be available on here until 5.30pm (AEDT) today to answer any questions you may have.

I honestly think they forgot that they made that statement. Quite unprofessional stating they would be available and then they just disappear.

Hi all - I'm 110 SC short of making Gold this year (if I make it, it will be the first time I hit Gold!), but will need to do that by May.

Any suggestions on when and where to go? I'm based in SYD, and looks like flexi to CNS seems to be talked about quite a bit on this thread - is that the best value option?

Thanks!

I think CNS seems to be the consensus on most status runs. I know from Melbourne I can do MEL-BNE-CNS for about $800 and earn 120SC.

Will really depend on your budget, flexibility etc

Yep that makes sense - just wanted to know what the good ex-SYD options are, I'm thinking a flex to CNS. Also have a family pooling set up so could go with them to get my 110SC, so SYD-BNE-CNS might be an option

Your best bet is to just see whats available. May is still awhile off, take a VA promo code and try to find value flights ex-Syd.

Family pooling can help and makes it a bit easier

With the Virgin 1 day flash sale yesterday, I've just booked my first status run :) BNE-MEL-HBA on a Saturday morning ($149) and then HBA-BNE ($99) direct on Sunday afternoon, with family pooling I get a cheeky weekend away with my other half, and I get Gold status to boot :) Very happy that I got it for under $500 for two of us for 80SC, I think it worked out at $6.13/SC. The BNE-MEL-HBA leg is only $5.85/SC which is the cheapest I have found in a while.

Now I just need to work out what to do in Hobart for 24 hours...

Dinner at Franklin!

I can't get enough of my extended routings to Asia. A few times a year I've been doing MEL-HKG/BKK/KUL/MNL etc. and going via BNE or PER, meaning for about $1200, I can earn up to 260 SCs and use my WP comp upgrades on the domestic legs.

Works out (very roughly) around $4.60/SC.

Booked MEL-PER for $149 ... but I get better value in the USA with,for example, a USD211 LAX-SEA-DEN fare ...

Asia routings are great value (IMO)

I'm doing MEL-BNE-SIN-BKK-SIN-MNL-SIN-BKK-SIN-SYD-MEL over the space of 2 weeks (6 segments within 24 hours) and with thanks to family pooling on the BKK-SIN-MNL legs I am getting 470 SC at a value of $4.44/SC

Our last : DEN-LGA rtn. Yes that's right 1 sector each leg. None of this multi sector, not enough space for stops on luggage tags, mind numbing status runs. No red eye flights, departure times very civilised too. 800SC from family of 5 pooling. $5/SC at Christmas.

family pooling is the one big benefit of Velocity especially as one person in family does most of the flying

was offered $800 delta dollars per passenger to give up seats on return. They needed 6 seats. Queued up but by the time I got to desk they only needed 4.

Would have paid paid for my next trip same itinerary next year - then I would have been able to report $0\SC

That's great if you have a family 5, nice and easy to get status.

Mine isn't a status run, I've never needed to do one, I'm going on vacation and am only 330SC away from retaining WP.

I actually added BKK-SIN-MNL after my original booking as I was presented an opportunity to interview in MNL and the timing worked out well

My wife and i are flying HBA-MEL-SIN-KIX return on a full flexi economy fare in April. Will earn 560SC, at a cost of $4.86/SC. So very happy with that, get to keep Gold again, and getting very close to Platinum. Great for a short holiday.

$5.31 seems good, which dates are you searching?

-found them $319 each way...hesitating...without knowing my flying pattern for the rest of the year...
