The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Ah ok, I was always of the impression it was a one time only thing. Was always curious if it was given again if you dropped and then reattained, was just something I kept in back of my head just in case I don't retain IHG considering that after next month I will crediting everything to retain my *G as there is no real benefit of being VA WP over SG

Bleah. I remember early on in the program that there were a a number of reports of it resetting each time you bounced up or down between gold/plat. I'm disappointed that this 'glitch' is reportedly now corrected. Was hoping to maintain HH gold/diamond by bouncing back and forth between gold/plat. I guess theres always the Macquarie card if it comes to that.

The benefit of plat for me, which I should hit this year, is pretty much limited to the 4 segments of 'free' upgrade to J. My normal pattern being PER-SYD or PER-MEL thats a 9900x4= 39,600 points saving = circa $1188 in dollar terms. Outside of that .... occasionally it would be useful to invite more than one guest into the lounge ....

Just found a decent run:

BNE > CNS return in J - 120SC @ $5.31

OMG thanks! This is better than the recent sale which I booked:
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....irfares/virgin-endless-summer-sale-73822.html

-found them $319 each way...hesitating...without knowing my flying pattern for the rest of the year...

I was able to refund my original bookings to Travel Bank without any penalty and use this to rebook at the current sale fare of $319 on different travel dates, so you can just book now and then cancel if the timings don't suit...

$319 in J.....BNE to CNS??? Oh please let them still be available when I get home tonight! That's incredible (the cheapest I think I've ever seen them is $100 dearer than that)!

Sale ends 8 March... (No) Hurry!

Thanks for the heads up on this - I was originally going to book Flexis (couldn't justify the cost in J) for a PER-CBR return trip later in the year but have just booked PER-CBR in J for $1199. Not as good as the J bargains you guys on the East Coast can get :) and maybe there's better fares in other sales, however it's a price I'm OK with and this now nets me an extra 60SCs to get me over the line to requalify for this year which in turn means I don't have to do an additional status run later (which is always inconvenient and time-consuming when you live in PER!). Also means I can book Savers for the CBR-PER sectors rather than Flexis (unless I decide I want to upgrade MEL-PER and can pick up one of those elusive creatures, a Sale Flexi fare!).

Thanks to all for the heads u[p on this one. Great J rate BNE-CNS so I've bought all I need through to end of Jan. The sale period for the second lot (Oct - Jan) is a little bit of BS, as there were a number of dates that the sale didn't apply and normal rates were showing, yet were still within the so called sale period.

I also tried to book and change dates to a "non-sale" period but couldn't without a "fare difference" penalty.

You were actually the first person I thought of when I saw such low J fares – I seem to remember you having a field day with them last year(?) :p

Good memory! I did go to town a bit last year with the J fares and I thought they were a bargain. I think they were $419. I nearly dropped off the chair when I saw them for $319 this year, so once again I've got my next years platinum (haven't even reached this years review date yet) all wrapped up on VA. Now to find something similar on QF!

One downside though, I'd just finished buying them and I got an email from Cash Rewards telling me VA have a 3% cash back offer. What a bummer, I can't do cash rewards in PNG as they're blocked so neither here nor there......but knowing I missed out cuts deep. :(

I've yet to have the pricepal VA cashback pay out even though it tracks OK

I haven't had any Hiltons come back through Quidco, but they do seem to track, but tracking at some rate less than what I clicked on! I can't figure how that works but their FAQs say it's often the case and quite normal . Their interpretation of the word "normal" seems to be somewhat different to mine.

getting in the last of the 2for1 VA credit card offer before the end of the month.
BNE-LST via MEL 25SC each way, ends up costing $3.82 a SC for the 100SC family pooling

Been looking back quite a way and there isn't much there about good SC runs in the US compared to the QF Forum. Is there anything that is particularly good? We are travelling SFO-MCO in June and, with 6 of us and family pooling, a pretty basic run should me to Platinum. A BNE-SYD could take care of the 8~ but prefer to avoid if possible. Any ideas?

I need to get 170 status credits between now and September leaving from Townsville. Does anyone know the cheapest way? Would the trip to Bali Flexi do it? I can't get the calculator to work on the Virgin site.

TSV-SYD-DPS flexi earns 70sc each way. You will have more options going to PER, or even DRW as there are more flights & connections, plus it's closer for the same SC earn. AKL via MEL in J class used to be a good option, not so sure as of late.

The calculator does not work on my iPad, or iPhone, but does work on my work Windows 7 computer. Not sure if this was your problem too. Not sure about android.

Ahh that's what it is then. I don't get much access to a pc. Let's hope they fix it soon.
