The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Just a quick question that I didn't think was worthy of a new topic...

If I reach silver in August 2016, and then in say January 2017 I reach gold, will my review date become January 2018? Will I need to earn 400 SC's prior to August 2016 or January 2017 if that is the case?

Hope that makes sense, sounds clearer in my head!

Yes. As soon as you reach gold you have 12 months to get your 400 to re-qual. It's a rolling 12 month thing with Virgin.

Hang on......let's clarify the dates before too much celebration!

If you reach silver in Aug 2016, you will have 250SCs. A status credit has a 12 month life span, so just check if any will disappear before Jan 2017, but assuming none do, you will need your existing 250SCs (used to gain silver) plus a further 250SCs (a total of 500SCs) to attain gold, but please be aware if you only get 400SCs before Jan 2017 (as your post suggests....but I'm guessing may be a year error), you will be 100SCs short of gold. If your last two dates given were intended to say August 2017 and January 2018, then you are correct.

Your status review date will change twice.....once in Aug 2016 at reaching silver and then again in Jan 2017 upon attaining gold. If you don't make gold, you will need to earn 200SCs before Aug 2017 to retain silver. If you do reach gold, you have until Jan 2018 to earn 400SCs to retain gold.

I'm a little confused so let me try and clarify:

By August 2016, I will be at roughly 400 SC's (currently I'm red and have 30 SC's) so I'll be bumped up to silver. I then have 12 months to earn 200 SC's to retain silver for the following year. However, if in January 2017 I am still at approx. 400 SC's and earn a further 100 SC's to reach gold, my next renewal date will be January 2018 which I will need to earn 400 SC's to retain gold.

Is that right? Sorry if it's super confusing, I'm trying to get my head around it all

Whatever date you achieve Gold becomes your new review date, if it's Jan 2017 then you will need to earn 400 SC by Jan 2018 to retain gold

To be clear, to qualify for a higher status level, each day your SC'S earned in the preceeding 365 days are totalled.

If that figure reaches a level (500 for SG) and you have flown the minimum no of VA flights for that level then you will have qualified.

So if you are silver and on January 23rd 2017 reach 500 SC with 4 flights since Jan 24th 2016 then you will be upgraded to SG.

If so then you would have until January 23rd 2018 to earn another 400 SC'S as well as have 4 VA flights to requalify.

Yes. That's right.

You originally said 400SCs by 2017, not 2018, which is why I attempted to clarify that you needed 500SCs by Jan 2017, not 400 as you said.
Ah that makes sense now, thanks for clearing that up for me.

And thanks for the others for replying too!

and you have flown the minimum no of VA flights for that level

Good point. None of us previously mentioned the minimum number of VA sectors. 4 for gold and if I'm correct, must be on VA metal, not a partners metal??

Just flight numbers ... As in "Marketing Carrier" ...
21.2 Eligible Sectors
21.2.1 Where a Member travels on a flight where Virgin Australia is the Marketing Carrier (irrespective of whether the Journey consists of Virgin Australia Domestic, Virgin Australia International Short Haul or Virgin Australia International Long Haul Flight Sectors), each Flight Sector will be considered an Eligible Sector.
21.2.2 Eligible Sectors are determined by us at our sole discretion and we may exclude any travel, tickets and fares outlined in clause 20.4 from eligibility to earn Status Credits.
21.2.3 Eligible Sectors exclude:
(a) flights which have been booked as a Reward Seat; or
(b) flights on a Virgin Australia aircraft, where another airline’s flight number is entered on the Itinerary, unless that flight is specified by us as an Eligible Sector.

Does anyone know how long Virgin America flights take to credit to your account? Been 5 days and counting. Original flight was cancelled and I was moved to a later flight so I'm thinking maybe this has mucked something up.

Hi guys - I have to get 80 status credits inside 3 months to maintain my gold status. I'm based in Sydney - any suggestions for me?

Syd - Per is 20 each way in Saver. Fares can be quite reasonable at the moment, particularly in happy hour. I've gotten some at under $300 return but generally $300 -$400.

Looking at Happy Hour Perth -> Sydney -> Cairns and back for me and my wife with the dates at around $500 return each. If its counted as a discounted fair, thats 70 SCs each yeah? Is this good value? It seems very hard to get good value tickets on Virgin. Much harder than I thought obviously because I am used to flying the discount airlines.

Hi guys, noticed this thread hasn't been replied to. The last couple of questions seem to be out of SYD. Here's a run you could do in a day for 100 SCs for less than $5.5/SC:

SCrun.PNG

Used the promo code CFQ29. This was just a quick search I did so there are probably some better ones out there closer than November.

You can probably get MEL-SYD-CFS-SYD-MEL flexi for sub $600 for 80 SCs.

Hey guys, I was just wondering ... is there any difference in SC if I book through SQ or with VA?

For example, I'm flying Brisbane --> SG --> Vietnam. I booked it through SQ but should get the right credit on VA right?

I'm just a bit worried since it's through SQ, Virgin won't acknowledge the SCs D:

Thanks!
