The Velocity Status Run Master thread

4.... 5.5..... all pretty good imho.

In the states I'm flying LAX - JFK @ 6.5 AUD/SC

However, when I fly Washington DC to Orlando via Atlanta it will be about 2.6 AUD/SC assuming we get comp upgrade to C+

Does the Delta comp upgrade give Premium SCs?-wasnt aware of this and is unusual (but interesting)

yes greenfish, my wife and I have travelled twice with Singapore Air, once booked through Singapore Air directly, the other through the Aussie virgin site. Both were Flexi saver fares, but the Singapore booking gave full SCs, the Virgin booking gave half reduced SCs. More careful now with my bookings.

I just booked SQ flights through the VA website, being a velocity member i thought it would be safe than booking through SQ.
I chose 'Freedom' fares thinking that this would give me the fare class of a full priced economy ticket. Is this not the case?
It means the difference between me earning 100SC's or 200SC's.

Not sure Fraser, but from the quick look i just had should be full economy fare class and earn as such. Look for the fare class code, needs to be one of these L, K, H, B, Y

Just spoke with VA, they assured me that any international long-haul 'Freedom' (previously known as Flexi) booking will earn SC's under K class.
This is a good result for me and any velocity member wishing to fly with SQ.

Just secured 200SC's flying MEL-HKG return with SQ at $4.75/SC. Not bad value at all.
Also gives me an opportunity to try out their new A350-900XWB, as well as their A388 and 77W.

HBA-MEL-SIN_KIX return for mr and mrs Tassieoptom generated 570SC @ 3.94/SC

This is why even with the "enhancements" to the VA program, it is hard to switch to Qantas. Its just so easy to maintain high status with VA's SQ alliance and family pooling. A single relatively inexpensive trip in Y for two and you are well on the way to maintaining platinum.

According to the other thread it does.
No!

You have to book directly into W class.

e.g. LAX-xSEA-JFK can be had for USD151 in V, USD215 in W and USD664 in P/I. The former earns 35 SC's, C+ 105 SC's and 140 SC's for the latter..

Thanks, good to know. I have LAX - JFK direct booked at the moment. I paid to upgrade to C+ and notice my ticket has been reissued as W (earning 60SC each way). I saw on another thread that it is harder to get the comp upgrades now.

I need a mere 60SCs to retain SG, based in SYD. Any top tips?

SYD-CNS return in Flexi (or whatever that translates to now) for <$600 return (less with Promo code) gives 60 SCs. It's a long enough flight to also then use some points to upgrade for 9,900 points each way and enjoy a J meal and drinks.

How about xSYD-BNE-PER return in discount economy. 60SCs and if you use the promo code 25% discount in ticket as well

I priced that up last night and it came in at around the same price as a SYD-BNE in J, which would be less hassle. Although doing a points upgrade on the coast to coast might be fun.

That's pretty neat, and cheaper. thanks.

Hi Everyone, If I upgrade from freedom to business using my points, can I get the status credit of business class or not? Any help will be great.

Hi Everyone, 2 questions if I may:

1. How hard is Virgin on the annual SC achievements? I have been Platinum for the past five years and i think I'm going to be about 60-80 SCs short this year. Is there any chance they will retain my status or will the 'computer' automatically drop me to Gold.
2. Has Virgin ever discussed or considered life time status achievements like Qantas?

1. Yes and there are numerous posts on this topic, however if you are that short I wouldn't leave it to chance. I would contact the Platinum desk and ask them if it is possible. Having future flights already booked will help your chances. My anniversary date is the 6th October. I had a flight booked for the 5th Oct. to take me to 805 points however I had to postpone the flight due to a mates mothers funeral on the 6th Oct. I rang the Platinum desk and asked them if it was possible they could grant me some leeway and after discussing with her supervisor they said that that would be OK. I was only going to be 5 short. Just not sure if they would let you maintain Platinum at 60-80 short.

2. It's often been discussed here but I believe that Virgin have never publicly discussed it.

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about taking grandma to the airport. She's flying with SG airline. I was wondering if I can use my gold benefits to check her in in the priority lane etc and entering Singapore Airlines Silver Kris Lounge? if i'm not flying?

Thanks!
