The Velocity Status Run Master thread

So I signed my mother up for the 'Explore Gold' flybuys promo...so she needs 80SC and 1 Sector. Her review date is 25th Feb 2017.

She's based in MEL and would like the most cost effective status run option.

Any help is much appreciated :)

35 SC short of silver (yay me ), any suggestions for a quick (read: CHEAP) run out of Melbourne? The only plans I have are Sydney for Australia Day next January, but that's not necessary for this SC run.

I welcome your advice on getting 130 SC by Jan 8th to achieve Gold. With a current double SC on Velocity avail till Dec 31st I figure this should be doable but wanting most economical way departing BNE or OOL. I also have 120K points I can use - Yes not the best use of points but saves $ in the lead up to Xmas. Flexible on which day to travel including Xmas day if there's a route worth considering.

what current double status credit offer? what did I miss?

I also have 120K points I can use
If you are after SC you will need to pay for a seat. You can use your points to upgrade a domestic paid fare, but you will only get SC for original paid-for seat

If you need 75SC, OOL-SYD-MEL return will get you 80SC in Y. It's $600+, but you can do it in 1 day. And if you use your points to upgrade to J you will have lounge access

BNE-CNS is a bit cheaper, but you'll only get 60SC in Y return. All other options I can think of would be closer to $1000

If it's 130SC that you'll need, that's a lot. To put it into perspective, you get 120 SC for SYD-LAX in J. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing

Thanks n7of9. The DSC was a targeted email r/to becoming a new flybuys member. Would have loved the Gold Status Match Challenge but this is a good 2nd best.

Q? Re using points, I thought if I used points plus pay I still received the SC is that right?

And if I have it right I could book a return Freedom fare OOL-SYD-MEL for 80SC (20+20+20+20) = 160SC with the DSC
Would I not be better booking one way OOL-SYD-MEL and a one way MEL-OOL on a Freedom fare for all legs for 70SC (20+20+30) = 140SC with DSC?

Just booked SG re-qualification flights for mid May (our anniversary weekend), with a reasonable Fiji business class special SYD > MEL > NAN for $625 each earning 260 SC for our family pooled account. The great thing is this time around I did not have to do any hard sell to Mr Kezzakawasaki:

Mr KK - "So we get more status credits if we fly via Melbourne right?"
Me - "Yup"
Mr KK - "And we can continue to use the secret squirrel entrance at Sydney airport for another year if we do this?"
Me - "Yup"
Mr KK - "Sold"

Our SYD > MEL feeder flight is scheduled for an A330 and we're in 1A and 2A - fingers and toes crossed for no equipment change and our first experience of The Business!

Just booked YWG - LAX. Naturally I opted for the route with the most stop overs to maximize the SC earn. Pretty stoked with 160 SC for ~500US. Still can't believe how cheap domestic F travel is in the US compared to here.

What is the best way to get 200 SC before August this year to achieve plat? I have 780 with a Melbourne trip (not booked yet) coming up.

I'm based in Brisbane :) Thanks!
