The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Are 2 lounge passes and the bonus points worth it?
I'd consider it for a weekend away but wouldn't do a true status run-each to their own though

Im starting to think just that, seems like such a shame to lose so many Status Credits so close.

Im going to try and Family pool with her as the Beneficiary, That should do it with my Perth visit in Feb. Thanks for the help, good to know what journeys are useful for status runs.

Silver doesn't really do much unless traveling internationally the premium economy check-in and boarding is nice but domestically its just the lounge passes

OOL can be pretty cheap via SYD to get two segments, but that leaves you stuck in OOL.

ADL is often around $90 each way. Also, look to tassie ...

Launceston definitely an option for a quick daytrip; I've seen some $79 fares pop up during happy hour. I have till early April to make a decision but it seems a waste to let 500sc got "unused".

Need 440SCs by end of August to hit Platinum, Eligible sectors are not an issue. Best/Cheapest option?

I keep platinum through my kids flying Singapore Airlines - return to London for a flexi-saver is about 280SCs in Y. Hong Kong via Singapore is 200 from memory.

Is platinum worth paying for 440SCs of flying though?

Best bang for buck seems to be Delta Premium or First but need toget to US first which may not be practical

Cheap flights to the US with Air NZ, the bonus being the extra SCs to and from AKL, do C+ W fares with DL. Bonus being you get to visit the NZ lounge at LAX on the way home.

Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

Hi all,
New to this. I am currently a silver member and need to get 60 SCs by 22nd March to move to gold (which I want to do before an upcoming US trip which I have booked on points). I've travelled 20 of 4 required Eligible Sectors (not sure what that means). I'm Sydney based and looking for the cheapest/easiest option to attain 60 SCs, don't have time for holiday atm so it would be purely a SCs reccy, don't care where it is to. Would love your help/advice!?

I reckon your best bet is SYD > OOL return in freedom (50SC) + some Coles/flybuys SCs from grocery spend?

Thanks!! So Freedom both ways to OOL? Sorry to be a pain but any other destinations equivalent in price and SCs received? Also, do you know what it takes to get 10SCs at Coles?

Ah, I see. Thank you. I would never spend that much at a grocery store as only shopping for me and generally eat out. Are there any flight options that could achieve 60SCs in total?

SYD-CNS on flexi (sorry, can't remember the correct fare name right now) is 30 SCs each way.

But poor value under the new SC regime. You're better off with a stopover in BNE each way, which would give 50sc each way in flexi(freedom) or 30sc each way in elevate.

Hey all!

Long time lurker, seldom poster. Owing to a new house my partner and I have not had the luxury of an overseas holiday this year so I'm going to loose my WP status :( So that I don't drop all the way to Silver, I'm in need of around 200SCs. Looking around with a target of ~$5 per SC I've got a budget of $1k. Looking at the domestic market I think I'm a bit screwed!

I can fly out of OOL or BNE.

OOL -> MEL -> PER 50SC each way in Freedom + use my J upgrades = 100SC round trip for $1,00 (bad)
OOL -> MEL -> DRW Same as above
OOL -> SYD (x4) 25SC each way in Freedom = 200SC all up for $1,300 (not too bad, bring partner, only two return trips)
BNE -> SIN -> HKG with SQ 100SC each way Flexi Save = 200SC round trip for $1,000 (target!)

So the money side is done but then there's the hours of my life I won't get back (sort of like watching bad movies). It is likely that I can claim an OS trip on tax which makes it hurt a lot less thankfully. If it was OS I probably wouldn't clear customs, stay in the lounge then turn around when the next plane does.

It all seems like quite a lot of effort and time, is it worth just becoming a Silver + Lounge Pass? I've got 1.2mil VA points so when we go OS next time it'll all be J rewards, lounge access is a given. Thoughts, comments, options?

If you're WP you get a soft landing to SG. Even with no SC at all.

I may be misunderstanding but VFF has a soft-landing so you should only drop to SG regardless of SCs
