The Velocity Status Run Master thread

andye, are you sure about SC's ? And does it matter in what ratio points/pay?

Sorry if my response confusing. You dont get SCs if you only use points (or cash) to pay taxes on reward seat (as opposed to an any seat)

What is the best way to get 200 SC before August this year to achieve plat? I have 780 with a Melbourne trip (not booked yet) coming up.

I'm based in Brisbane :) Thanks!

Singapore Flexi Saver (W,M etc.) is quite affordable and will post at flexi rates. SQ service and lounges are great too, IMHO. A trip to Europe or China should give 180-240 depending on destination. Should be $800-1400 depending on where you go.

Flights are usually cheap to unpopular destinations. I bet Istanbul would be a bargain, was cheap as chips when I went in late 2015 and that was before most of the drama.

Hi total newbie here - I am currently silver velocity (as of dec 14) 1 am sitting on 372 status credits.
On the March 7th 2017 I will start having status credits drop off
I am flying Townsville to Melbourne Elevate end of January, which I worked out should give me 70 points ? .
leaving me with 442 points .
My husbands points also pool with mine , we can fly from cairns or Townsville ( unless we get cut off from Cairns by flood..then I lose )
tentatively thinking late February we both fly cairns to Brisbane elevate for $640 which will give me 80 points? =Gold

Does this all sound right or is there a cheaper option from Townsville?

Thank you so much for your time in doing this, I ended up booking The Cairns to Brisbane Elevate category for my husband and I for $589 using the discount code you gave.
Decided to kill two birds with one stone and spend a few days in Brisbane. Now hoping cyclones and floods stay away for that week so I can get to the airport. Am known for being unable to get back from wherever I holiday due to Natural Disasters .. (I count Alan Joyce and his airline strike a few years ago in that , stranded me in Melbourne)

Need some help please. To re-qualify for Plat I need to do 4 sectors before the end of March, I already have the SC required.
Would love to get it done in a day if possible, give me the chance to finish a good book. Obviously the cheaper the better.
I may even take the wife with some free amex flights if we can get a good lunch somewhere :)

Thx in advance.

Assuming you're flying out of SYD:

https://www.google.com/flights/?gl=...1362,LSTMEL0VA1375-MELSYD0VA885;a=VA;s=2;eo=e

But book direct through VA's website, with CLX79 to get that trip for $343.50. 4 sectors in a single day, easy peasy :)

P.s. I believe it has been discussed that amex free flights don't attract eligible sectors.

In a similar position of having the SC for gold but require two sectors by April 11.... Keeping an eye out for the cheapest day trip from MEL possible.

Yes, out of Sydney. Wow that is cheap for 4 sectors, thank you.
Re Amex - the wife doesn't need the sectors and any SC's are pooled to me, which I don't need for re-qual. Thought it would be nice to take us out for a long lunch somewhere. Have to check out if Launceston has any good restaurants.

Thanks again.

I'm pretty sure it will be worth pooling your SCs to her for this trip. The SCs will disappear into a black hole otherwise. Pooling wont affect your sector count

Hey guys, I'm planning a Brisbane to Seoul trip for my grandma, mum and myself and I want to upgrade (using points) our economy seats to business (J).

  • The website states that "Go Plus, Getaway or Freedom fare" can upgrade. However, the booking page shows Getaway, Elevate and Freedom fares. What's the deal with this?
  • Also, I think BNE --> SIN --> ICN is 2 sectors. How much points would I need to upgrade to J per person one-way (for elevate if that's allowed or freedom)?

Based on this table: https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Redeem/FlightUpgrades/upgrademe-points/#shorthaul

I think I have to pay 48k points (for non-Freedom; 24 for BNE - SIN and 24 for SIN to ICN?) and 30k (Freedom) per person each way? Is this correct?

This is my first time trying to upgrade flights and I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks so much!

OOL can be pretty cheap via SYD to get two segments, but that leaves you stuck in OOL.

ADL is often around $90 each way. Also, look to tassie ...

Good luck getting the Upgrade. Because it is SQ metal I don't like your chances. It does say that code share flights are not available for upgrade but it is worth a call to the Membership Contact Centre.

Hi All, im wondering what would be the best way of getting 10 Status credits before 11th Feb, very short notice but i just noticed the girlfriend needs 10 Status credits to get silver and was wondering if a short flight from SYD would be worthwhile or if we should wait?

Also if anyone knows of another way to get 10 Status credits quickly that would be great. Doesnt look like Flybuys will be an option this month.

I would suggest SYD-OOL and before the end of Jan if you can because the SCs on a getaway will be halved after the 30th

Are 2 lounge passes and the bonus points worth it?
I'd consider it for a weekend away but wouldnt do a true status run-each to their own though
