The view from my "office"

We are in Napier NZ cycling. There is so much damage from the recent cyclone, the shoreline is littered with debris, the train line is 70B401B4-0790-4219-B8DE-AA93F79AF186.jpeg522AF7C5-94DC-4D84-A0DC-0B043BDE517F.jpeg1E1C65FD-44CD-4C14-A27F-E789AE325B3A.jpeg12A55029-5B7B-44A0-9AC6-404D657B6B77.jpegdamaged in many places, the highway north will take 8 months to repair. We made it to CAI on Wednesday, but one of our suitcases had been left behind in DOH! It arrived overnight and we wasted all Thursday morning to retrieve it from the airport. On DOH-CAI the J seats are sold as F. I was looking forward to visiting the Al Safwa F lounge, but due to rescheduled flight from BNE and a delay we had only 50 minutes to connect, no time for lounging.

While the damage is devastating and ongoing suffering to locals will last a long time, I could help but comment about the town “now suffering from very little tourists”. They probably don’t need much room! I hope regular sized tourists will return as soon as possible to help out the economy.

Tonight’s office, Sofitel Darling Harbour. I’m only Accor ALL Gold, so obviously don’t rate the full waterfront view. There is the end of Darling Harbour in view, though. Not a car park in sight either, but I do have a good view of cars on the overpass roads.

Cairo sightseeing. The new Grand Egyptian Museum is still not open, so we went to the old Egyptian Museum. It was so crowded that we couldn’t really enjoy it and left early.

Later we visited two Coptic churches, including the Hanging Church. Through a hole in the floor you can see that it is built on top of two towers of a fort. Because those towers are now below street level you can’t see this from outside.

Did you see if the Tutankhamun exhibit is still there? At some stage they’re going to have to move it across to the new museum and there will be a period where the GEM is still not open, and Tutankhamun is not on exhibit at the old Museum.
