Also my boss, I’d be happy to not have grass, but she loves the smell of freshly cut grass. When we are passing by a place where grass is being cut, she winds down the window and inhales deeply, sigh.
She would be very happy if we moved to rural block and she got her hands on a ride on.
When we moved into this place, I mowed the lawn.... first time I've ever done it. Not sure if I should read into things too much that Mrs FB won't let me do it anymore? ;)

#1 tip for blokes - do something really badly and never be asked to do it again by the Mrs!

Can confirm this approach works. Fight club though ;)

Hiroshima has been grim as well as beautiful. I really like this city. A survivor talked to us with a one-hour presentation this morning. She is nearly 83. Her mother died at age 94 and her younger sister is also still living. This lady was 4 years old at the time of the atom bomb. Somehow they were never touched by the acid rain and managed to get to grandparents on the coast further away outside the zone. The was followed by making our own okonomiyaka, a pancake layered with cabbage and various foods, then an egg. Great fun to lighten the mood. The picture is not the one I made! Preparations for next month’s G7 summit are also nearing completion.

has had a longer life expectancy
There are conflicting studies. The problem is the estimation of actual radiation exposure. There was a Lancet study many years ago which looked at this which suggests a negative life expectancy for all Hiroshima A-bomb survivors and the loss of life expectancy went up the higher the dose (in Gy). Certainly the extent of loss was calculated in months and the Japanese are known for super long life expectancies

I'll try to find it.

But I'm glad that direct survivors of the ABomb are still around to tell their stories.

Here is a fuller report of the article.

When reading the full article there are certainly some assumptions that might affect the conclusion. The study is a large study but not of all survivors so a possible selection bias such as this -
Because the cohort was intentionally
constructed to contain a higher proportion of high-dose
atomic-bomb survivors, average loss of life among all
exposed atomic-bomb survivors would be less than the
4 months found for the study cohort.

Yesterday we toured the Himeji Castle, also known as the White Castle. Never destroyed by earthquake or war. The gardens were so beautiful and a very enjoyable way to pass an hour

Not happy; jealous!! :D I've attempted to visit Himeji castle three times and have been thwarted each time. One I discovered it was 'Golden Week' and the advertised queue time was ridiculous; one I was just too tired after a bad flight and third I had to drop Japan from my 2020 covid shortened trip. Its still on the list ....

Today’s office was Miyajima, famed for its Buddhist shrines and the East Gate in water at high tides but on dry sand at low tide. There are “wild” deer around but they are not fed.

This deer just wanted some shelter from the rain. It didn’t attempt to enter the shop.
