The view from our office at Castelo de Vide.


The town has various parks and open spaces.



Also the usual narrow streets.


It is very pretty after dark and has lots of statues.

Office for the next two nights: Ryu Spa Resort, Takayama, Japan. The snow is still around in tiny patches but still too cold for cherry blossoms to be in bloom here. Excellent room, with “excellent” view.

After reading @drron ’s car adventure yesterday morning we had a scare when a warning light came on in our Dacia (Renault based car built in Romania) mobile office.


What would we do without mobile phones! I downloaded the user manual and found this worrying instruction:


Mr Google provided a dealer address 50 km in the direction we were going anyway. They looked at it and said the car just needs servicing! I then rang the rental company to check that we were allowed to continue our trip and they immediately offered to send a tow truck and a taxi to take us back to Lisbon. I explained that that seemed a bit drastic just for a service and that we would be in Lisbon on Thursday. We are now going to swap cars that day.

Quite common on European vehicles - normally a dirty pollution air sensor.

Yes eucalypts were imported into Portugal several hundred yrs ago as ornamental trees. Have caused several bad bushfires over there.

In any case, tonight's office in Sofia has fantastic views.


When we left Veliko Tarnovo we went for a hike up to a waterfall... After taking the wrong (very, very steep) path we finally got there.


Once done we carried onto Plovdiv which was super windy, but sunny at least.






And went from 23 and sunny the day before... to 3 degrees and .. snow, in Sofia Cleared up quickly and a nice fresh breeze to let you know it was there.

Yesterday we had an outing to Marvão, another fortress on a hill, with a village inside the walls.




Great views in all directions gave the defenders an advantage.

The view from today’s office in Tomar is grand! On one side the hotel car park covered by solar panels, on the other is the obligatory hilltop castle, this time the Knights Templars’ Convento do Christo.




We visited the Convento earlier and were impressed by its rotunda church inspired by the one in Jerusalem.


The corridors with cells.


And the dining hall.

We were a bit disappointed that it was all about the building and not really about the Knights.

Office over the last few days includes Skopje and Matka Canyon in North Macedonia. Hike and water biking in the canyon, good fun.

The fortress in Skopje has lots of nooks and crannies to explore and is free too.

This evening’s office in Kyoto. Original house would have been owned by a very wealthy family, but is now a restaurant. The first photo is their garden. We enjoyed two dances from this 19 year old student. She is training to be a dancer only, not a Geisha.
