The view from my "office"

Saying goodbye to my temporary DRW office as I head home.

Darwin AFB is right next to DRW airport and some of the US aircraft currently on training / war games. Double width runways allow for multiple fighters to take off in formation. I missed catching a photo of the lone fighter that took off.

.
First time I’ve seen USAF K767s here… or as they call them KC-46 Pegasus.

Oslo has been very interesting. Fabulous architecture. I have posted a view of my “office” from above the town. The others are famed paintings by Norwegian artist Edward Munch at the National Museum. I really enjoyed visiting there today.

In the centre of the first photo, to the right of the “office”, is the Munch Gallery.

Can’t believe I completely forgot about this thread whilst on holidays last month. Because we went to some places less travelled, I’ll see if I can post a shot or two of those.

But first, our entry point to Europe was very conventional and we took Mstr Scarlett to that oft visited tourist office:

Next day we walked all around the various offices.

But he really wanted to visit this office (Parc des Princes - home ground for Paris Saint Germain soccer team):

…and damage my ‘international fee free’ credit card at the PSG merch shop!

We flew ORY-LIS-SID (Sal Island, Cabo Verde) with TAP Portugal on their A320neo and it is NOT a comfortable office in Y (28in pitch):

The TAP lounge in LIS was quite fine for a couple of hours to escape the knee crushing seats and had plenty of nice food options, including self serve Portuguese tarts. 🤤 A few were consumed in the lounge and a few more somehow fell into my backpack to be eaten during the four hour LIS-SID leg.

Cabo Verde is a former Portuguese colony now an independent nation of 8 main islands off West Africa. Sal island is the second most populous and probably the tourist hub as it receives a number of direct ‘sun-seeking’ flights from various European cities. TUI seemed to fly their own aircraft there once or twice a day.

Santa Maria is the main town on Sal Island with a very dry, desert-like climate.
Car park view of the (of course there is an) Irish pub beside our hotel office. We were not interested.

There was a single ‘main street’ running through Santa Maria which was quite nice. Plenty of touts but they were friendly rather than aggressive and stopped as soon as you indicated no interest in their shop or restaurant.

Santa Maria is set on the south of Sal island and has some nice beaches. Very refreshing for an afternoon dip after doing touristy things.

Dry, sometimes dusty, but interesting to get out and ride through local streets out to some old salt works (as you’d expect on an island named ‘Sal’).

Then my favourite kindle of office:IMG_2248.jpeg

The golf courses uses recycled water from Santa Maria, but still only has enough for ‘patches’ of fairway grass and for around the greens. It’s adjacent to a form of ‘botanical gardens’ so has the preponderance of trees on the island.
I played with the traditional golf sticks and little white ball. Mstr Scarlett (soccer mad) played ‘football golf’ alongside me by kicking his ball from tee box to the flag! (foot golf is a real thing - not on this course, but we improvised) I did have to carry a piece of astro-turf around with me for those times when my ball came to rest on the rocks and gravel part of the course.

Looking forward to our upcoming visit to the Munch gallery around New Year's.

Miss Juddles 🙁
No juddles was the chef and we were at his residence so chez juddles.

And yes @Ade juddles was very active on AFF for some time. He is a great fellow and has really contributed to the world . He and his brother have won awards for the work they have done helping out indigenous miners in South aAmerica and Africa which has helped improve the environment. I really had to search hard but came up with the info eventually.

Not the same level of assistance but helping the environment nonetheless, before Covid MsProzac was writing reports for the UN identifying tailings dam compliance on mine sites around the world. Upset a few miners along the way. When Covid hit it took all the funding away from her work and now the miners can do what they want to the environment.
