The view from my "office"

Wow! Been to DEL a few times last year and never once saw blue-ish sky. It was always grey or light brown.

Was a warmish day (27C) for this time of year. Suspect that helped with clearing the smog as the day wore on to some extent.

Another three days in glorious Queenstown (Tas) co-leading another tour.

First stop, as usual, is the amazing Linda Cafe. Outside view

in 1910 a new mine manager from the USA arrived. He pointed at small hill at the edge of town and said "that’s where you’re going to build my house" but first they had to level the top off.

The art scene in Queenstown is booming and although that may seem very odd, it’s quite true.

And of course the incomparable Queen river. Up until the early 1980s for about 80 years it carried 1 million tons per annum of acidic, toxic, heavy metal laden mine tailings straight into Macquarie Harbour. The harbour is now described as a pristine wilderness area supported by World Heritge around it. 😀 And the Queen River still runs into it.

The orange is caused by the mineral Goethite coating all the rocks and the water is mainly mine dewatering pumped from the deep.

The infamous Queenstown gravel football oval.

I learned today that Queenstown had two female Aussie rules football teams in the 1950s. Go suck eggs, AFL!

this afternoon, after 16,000 steps and two walking tours the town, a lovely McHenry sloe gin and tonic in the garden of Penghana.

Did anyone see the ABC production Bay of Fires? A truly bizarre series but set around Zeehan and Queenstown and they were about 100 people needing accommodation in Queenstown and Penghana hosted all the leading cast. A second series is due to commence shooting in a couple of months.

Last time I was in Queenstown, some 48 years ago, a blade of grass was nowhere to be seen. I tried to visit in 2022. Perhaps next year hire cars will once again be availabl.

What are the rooms like now - has it been upgraded?
i have a deluxe room. A bit of wear on the skirtings and some woodwork, but pretty good overall. Perhaps not the opulence of last century, but I have enjoyed my stay. Great location. The Cricketer’s Bar is great, and exceedingly good prices for lunch and dinner! I booked my return flights and accommodation all as classic rewards. Decided I may as well use some of those excess frequent flyer points. 😊

Surprisingly, the breakfast menu is very affordable. Eggs Benedict $17.00. And there is a gluten free bakery, “kudo”, right around the corner. I‘m taking a bag of loaves back home tomorrow!

Then saw an Australian cattle dog, missing a tail, but this one came from the states, followed by the oldest grape vine in the world.

I asked her and she said it was a cattle dog, wouldn’t keep still enough to get a decent photo.
